The fading .40 S&W

My opinion for LE agency going back to 9mm is simple. 9mm ammunition cost almost half the price of .40 and it's more women friendly. So a place to save money. Few LEA had both caliber and officers could make a choice... But it costed a lot in ammunition and in spare parts....so...

.40= more stopping power compared to 9mm.
Magazine capacity: Springfield XD-M .40= 17 bullets...

I think .40 is a great LE caliber. 9mm a nice caliber to shoot at paper and .45 a nice caliber for the show :p

x2...I had my first experience with a G22 (.40) and I didn't notice much if any difference between it and my G17 (9mm) in regards to recoil. I'll also agree with comments like the ballistic characteristics for stopping power is superior in the .40 vs. 9mm to be completely irrelevant. My 9 knocks the sh1t out of a paper target with the exact same prejudice as a .40,{slightly smaller hole perhaps:p}.
 
I shoot IPSC so I'm leaning on the 40S&W loaded for major power factor. Loading a 9mm to major isn't going to happen for me :)

Seeing as how we can't carry and we have mag limits anyways... it's not going to make any difference to me at all. If I lived in the US and could carry. I would have to say I'd go 9mm. I can shoot a 40 fast but a 9mm faster. And with more rounds in the mag... more is better. Especially when you are under stress.

In IPSC I don't see 40S&W going away any time soon.
