cleaning without the fumes

Hello,

I couldn't really find anywhere else to post this, and it might be kind of a noob question so I'll post it here.

My wife has lung issues, the fumes from most standard solvents really irritate her lungs. I've mostly been using hoppes #9 solvent; she can't be anywhere in the condo when it is in use. My milsurp's require a fair amount of cleaning so i try to do them somewhere where the fumes won't linger, and she stays out until it's cleared up. I can't really clean them outside because its a condo in the middle of a city, the anti's in the building would go bananas.

Even just cleaning my glock, on which i use only the smallest amount of solvent in the bore, bothers her.

Can anyone suggest alternate solvents which will not have the same fumes?

Depends what your cleaning and how often you clean. In many cases a few passes with brass brush followed by an oiled patch with a few clean patches behind it will do the job. You don't need solvent every time on every firearm.

When I'm shooting dirty corrosive milsurp, a few passes with a brush just doesn't suffice. Either way, its not really a matter of how often I clean, if the bottles open, she's bothered
 
i was gonna say you can use frog lube. stuff actually smells like minty gum.
im not sure if it will be enough to clean up corrosive milsurp stuff.
 
my girlfriend doesn't like hopes 9 solvent either, i'm likely going to start cleaning the bores of my rifles at the range as I pack up, and do a light oil as I put them away when I get home.
