Gradually picking up the parts for another custom build using a Remington 700 action (7mm STW). I usually go with the Jewell trigger, but this time I decided to give Timney a try. My buddy says he don't like Timney and Jewell is the only way to go. What are your opinions on Timney?

I have to agree with your budy, I much perfer the Jewel over a Timney, in fact I perfer a tuned factory rem 700 trigger over Timey, this is just my opinion.

If you are going to a 2 ounce trigger Jewell is the one to get.

If you are going for 1.5 to 2 pounds, have your 700 trigger reworked for a fraction of the price of a Timney.

For a hunting weight pull, factory, Timney, Rifle Basix, Jewell ALL work. There is a very good chance your friend didn't have his trigger adjusted properly.

There are precious few shooters who can tell the difference of a properly set up 2lbs trigger from either of the above options. Problem with the new Rems factory triggers is the fussing needed to get under 3lbs.

We don't play with factory triggers anymore as the liability just puts this on the "no touchie" list.

YMMV.

So, it seems you people don't like the Timney Trigger. Well, it showed up in the mail today and according to them it's "The World's Finest Trigger."

There's nothing wrong with them, most people just don't see the value in them because they don't adjust to less than 1.5lb without the firing pin "following down" when closing the bolt. I can tune a factory old style rem 700 trigger to do the same.

I personally don't like the wide shoe on the timneys but some prefer it so maybe you will like it, who knows. They do maintain there value well and seem to sell fast so some must like them. Good luck.

Ya ... that's why that allan key in the above pic comes loose under recoil and your bolt release fall's out on the ground and you have to keep ordering new ones every year ... they are the worlds best because you cant tune them down less than 1.5lbs with out running out of sear ...

The design on the bolt release on the Timney 700 is a joke

if you want , I can take a sh*t in a box and call it the worlds finest

Found this on the bushnell site. Must be true

You guys do realise that BY DESIGN, the Timney 510 is only going to get no lighter then 1.5lbs?

If you want a lighter trigger, get the version designed for a lighter pull.

Screws loosening due to shooting? wow, wonder if there has been ANY bolt loosen on a rifle due to recoil?

so if the bolts on a NF set of rings or a NEAR base or SAKO TRG loosen due to shooting, must mean all of this stuff is just CRAP....

Interesting....

My timney tactical installed on my R700 308 couldn't possibly be that much worse than a jewell. If you breath on the trigger it goes off, but yet you can slam the empty gun on the buttstock and the trigger doesn't fire! For safety and how light it is I am very surprised. I recently acquired a savage that Jerry above is getting parts for and a rifle basix is next to try. I think there is some snobbery going on with the Jewell owners because another company has created a product with successful results at a fraction of the cost. I would spend my hard earned money on the Timney and use the $150 remaining difference to spend on ammo, a solution that would probably put you farther ahead in your shooting success.

Ok I just found this thread no one has mentioned the one really good redeeming quality of a Timney over any other trigger... the fact that you can open the bolt on safe. I love this feature on the rifles I hunt with. When I get up to leave the stand I don't have to take the safety off then unload the gun.

Wow Jare ! for a guy with as much experience as you , you should know that on the Rem 700 version ... if you tighten the Timmny bolt release allen key down to far it will be to tight for it to function. It has to be backed off a bit so it can move up and down freely .... Thus leaving it vulnerable to coming completely lose from recoil , eventually falling right out ... torqued down to spec ive never had a NF base screw or bolt come lose.

And yes Jerry ... if your trying to compare a Timny trigger to a Jewel they are Junk ! ... and if your comparing one to a tuned 700 trigger ... are they worth the value ? compared to the original 700 design and the extra money ? ... not even close.

On the Rem 700 version I personally think Timny missed the mark ... don't know what else to say

Umm yeaaah ... You can cycle the bolt when a Jewel is on safety, the same goes for a Rem700 trigger ... I wouldn't expect you to know that because you run " Timmy " triggers ....

That was about as uninformed as it gets ....
