Hungry solved my M305 barrel indexing issue in 3 minutes

I have an M305 for a while now and I knew from the first day, the barrel is a bit over indexed (too tight). I shot over 400 rds through it, and there wasnt a single problem whatsoever. No split casing, no slamfire, no fte

My questions for you: because of the over indexed barrel, the gas system was over rotated abit over to the left. is it safe to keep shooting ? I havnt checked the head space yet but I think I would loose up the barrel a bit just to align all the parts properly.

also, where can I find the type of tools to fix the indexing? is there a specific named barrel vise or wrench required?

If you are in Ottawa area and are able to help with the tools, I would like to borrow your tools(barrel vise and a wrench of some sort ??) by offering with gun solvent or ammo or other supples you need, as an appreciation.

Some pics of how far it is overindexed would help , a barrel vice is required as it may take a fair amount of force to move the barrel into position.
If it is overindexed it is a bit more work than under indexed as the barrel shoulders may need to be rolled back..
When looking from the receiver end ....if the front sight is leaning to the left the barrel maybe over indexed and if it is leaning to the right it maybe under indexed
Try and make it to Petawawa this oct 19 - 20 as I am organizing a " Hungry " m-14 clinic here.
At the clinic you can get your rifle running great and learn a crap load of info.

Nah, 3 degrees is not much. Like I said before, "It all depends on which high school shop class put yer M14 rig together." :D

I got yer backs. Simply mailing me the barreled action (no bolt, no trigger group, no stock, no op rod) with receiver and barrel and I can turn you around in no time. It's only a 5 minute job.

Unpacking the box and unraveling all that annoying masking tape takes longer and really it's the hardest part of the job! :evil:

Keep that packing material simple and I can turn you around ASAP. Now, once school gets in session, I need to do more of these jobs because the M14 fun IS my THERAPY. :)

I don't drink or smoke so I need therapy from my challenging course load, at the end of the day. The M14 saves me from going nucking futs! :D

you are so right, the sight is over to the left so it is over indexed ! I shoot right because of this. LOL but overall, its a nice rifle I cannot part from.
I ll try to set a meet with Hungry soon. will let you guys know how things work out

CanadaTail just left my place with the biggest poop eating grin after we re-indexed the barrel. Life is good. Another happy M14 lover on his way to helping other newbies. :D

Man. What a way to start my 5-day trip to the area. After 6 hr of driving,Barney is my first stop. The gun is fixed within 3 f)&$:);? Minutes ! I m off to see some shipwrecks with my old friends tmrw !
All in all , I strongly recommend Barney on solving all m14 related stuff cuz he s the kind of guy who has the knowledge and spirit to get the job done.

If Barney really cared about all of us he'd make house calls. Instead I have to wrap it up and put it in the post. Pfft what else does he want.
My Post Office is 27 km up the road. Probably expects that I cover the return postage too, all so he can unwind after a day at work.
He should be paying us or at least covering the postage, and they NEVER tell ya that you have to bring your own coffee to the clinics eh
