Spotting scopes for $100-$200

Hey I am wanting a spotting scope that can see a .22 to a 30-06 hole up to 200 yards. I don't expect perfect clarity I just want to be able to see my bullets haha. basically while me or my dude is shooting we want the other person to be able to watch as well.


I am looking at cabelas and the Simmons proportion for $125 seems to get ok reviews.

I've also seen on a few other websites people recommending the celestron Ultimate 80 straight spotting for about $200

Basically I wanting your experiences with some cheap scopes and recommend your favorites and where you got them.

Also some people said to buy used and I'm wondering where can you find that in Canada ?

ya I walked into cabelas today to see how well I could see through it, and at 85 yards it was already pretty dark and blurry. I was holding it though and didn't have it on a mount. Also it was indoors so that's another factor, but still I thought it would be a little better than that at 85 yards.
 
For $200 you might find something old in the EE that is of good enough quality to do what you want, but I wouldn't buy a spotting scope new at that price for fear it wasn't worth having. I got a Minox MD50 demo from CameralandNY (site sponsor with a good reputation here) a few years ago for about $300 and I think I was lucky with that.
 
I seen two different models at Canadian Tire yesterday, one was the 60mm lens, and the other was a larger 90mm, both were $199.00 I'm sure the larger scope would work at that distance.

I have the Celestron 60 and it's okay at 100 yards but at 200 I find it hard to see 22cal..
 
I just bought one of these Tascos for my OH

It's 20-60, 80mm & for the price, $168.00 at Lebarons, it's not a bad scope at all. It's not as well-built or as clear & focused as my Vanguard Platinum, but it was 1/2 the price, so like I said, it's pretty good for that money. Certainly no problem for .22 at 100 meters (110 yards), and I think it would be good further than that, but can't say for sure coz 100 m. is the furthest we've used it at so far.

That's what I have found..

Maybe someone will chime in with their review AT 200 but I expect it will cost you more..

If you can buy local and have a return policy that may work better than online.
 
Just don't do it. Save up some more money and contact "a retailer who is not a site sponsor" and get a Leupold GR 15-30X spotter. It is worth the money, believe me. PM me for the name of the retailer.

I would go with this advice if I were to go 200-300 and want a decent spotter.. just my OP

Why are you sure? Did you use one to see .22 calibre bullet holes on a target 200 yards away?
 
I have what you are looking for in the EE. You will have to spend $700 or more to get a better scope than what I'm selling for $250.

No I didn't but I have no problem seeing them at 100 yards with the smaller scope, with a larger 90mm lens it should be able to pick up the target at 200 yards.

It will pick up the target but I think that is not a good reason to assume you'll be able to see the holes at twice the range. The size of the lens won't matter if the quality of the lens isn't up to the task. You'll have to try it out to find out. That's why I asked why you are "sure".
