Hey everyone. Can anyone tell me if an ncstar mark iii full size scope can stand up to an m14 for just amature shooting. I'm not wanting to shoot at very far range I just want somthing basic. So if anyone could let me know if that scope is suitable at all it would be much appriciated.

Thanks

NCStar is junk.
Save your money.

Buy quality, buy once.

In the sub $300 range look at Vortex and Redfield they are both a pretty decent value and come with lifetime warranties.

Unfortunately the scopes you are mentioning are not ment for real firearms, they are for airsoft so they won't hold up. You might as well just hand your money over to a person on the street and walk away .

What about a leapers UTG accushot 4-16x44. I know I'm being cheap but money is tight right now and like I said I'm not looking for anything amazing.

Again, don't bother with UTG.

Safe your money and enjoy the irons for the time being. You'd be surprised with the accuracy you can get from irons.

^^^ This.

Don't forget that you'll need a decent mount and rings. That's another $150-$200 right there. Don't bother with the $50 Chinese crap mounts. Really, if you can't put $500 in to the scope/mount/rings, don't bother putting a scope on it. If you're on a budget, get a set of USGI iron sights and use those for a while. Save up and get some half decent/functional optics down the road.

Bushnell Elite 10x ET1040 for around the $200 mark on the EE

Set of Leupold Rifleman rings will run you about $30 and are decent

CASM mount from m14.ca for $139

For well under $500 you can have a nice little setup

Buy an old used Leopold please, and nothing else. It can take the recoil, is clear glass, is warrantied for life. Nothing else that you can afford will come close to doing what you want, or what the Leopold can do....period.

Except Vortex, and you will get a lot more for your money with Vortex with the same warranty.

You will definetly get a chance to use the warranty mounting anything made by Vortex that fits the OP's budget. Crossfire I guess, should be good for a couple of mags on a rifle known as a scope killer. Of course mounts and rings have a lot to do with those failures.

I have a buddy with a cheap Vortex 3x9 on a Tikka 300winmag. He shoots a lot and the scope is still going strong 3 years later.
Anecdotal, but then again so is your comment.

Try find a used Redfield Revolution - good quality but inexpensive. They are made in the USA by Leupold and have the full Leupold warranty.

Edit - there's a guy selling a Leupold VX-I 3x9 on the EE for $200 - that would be pretty much the same scope.

I am not a Vortex hater by any means, owning a few Razor HD models I can say they are of fine quality. The few lower end models i have owned including a Viper PST 1-4, Spark, and Crossfire 4-12 all having to be sent in for warranty services have put a bad taste in my mouth. "Your buddy" having success is fantastic.

I have had two Vortex scopes and nothing but good things to say about them. One 1-4 pst which was great, and a 4-16x hs on rifle that was great. The lower end ones might not be as good but I still find you get more for your money from them, which by that should be more then a 200$ leupold. Personally I wouldn't waste my with a scope under 4-500 as that seems to be where you get into the decent ones. My vote is to save up s bit of money and get a used Vortex.
