Higher end NR rifles, Robinson Arms XCR ($2500) vs Tavor 21 ($2750), which is better

I've had 2 VZ58s fail, not wear out, but fail, full stop. Not saying the XCR is any better but VZs are not bullet proof. Edit..mind you these where a cz858 and CSA vz58. Not full auto military guns.

Curious? Do PMCs buy their own guns?? Or given a choice by the company?

Choice.

His was FA, ran like a top.

Well all I can give is my opinion based on my experience I own a xcr-l in 7.62 and it is great no fails only lock tight I used is on my stock which I swapped out I didn't like the fast stock it was a little short for me. Myself being a lefty it is very easy to oprerate the gas setting is awesome and even cheap norinco ammo shoots on the lowest setting. Recently I was able to shoot a tavor and I liked the weight and it seemed to shoot flawlessly but I felt cramped up shooting it especially while bench shooting it but overall a great gun. I think the real decision comes down to what feels comfortable with the individual not weather it has been battle tested because the op stated he has a new range to go to not flying to the middle east to fight Taliban. So my vote is for the xcr even though I one day will purchase the tavor the wife found it easier to shoot than my xcr based soley on my experience shooting both and if anyone is wondering how many rounds I've fired down my xcr its around 2000

That's strange... What components failed exactly and how did they fail? What led to their failure? What sort of shooting regimes do they typically see?

We're going to need a few details, because coming onto an anonymous internet forum and saying a generally well-received and engineered gun "failed", and not one, but two, requires a little more substance for credibility.

It's not unheard of Double, there were a few batches of CZ's that made it into the country that make Robinson Arms look like the paragon of reliability/QC and as such trying to unsubtly discredit ActiveShooter is certainly unwarranted.
That's not even getting into the whole "gremlin" thing, nor the .223 carbines which have all sorts of stuff happening to them.

Every firearms platform will have it's issues. As an impartial observer the XCR had a few, but not more then you'd expect.
The majority of complaints seem to stem from that one single batch of bolt catches that wasn't heat treated right and that's a $16 part even if RA wasn't good for replacing them no questions asked, which they did.

There have been many revisions since the XCR was first released (no locktite, period.) and everyone i've spoken to who owns one, newer or older, has been thrilled with their rifles.
The greatest opposition in these threads ALWAYS comes from people who have never owned one it seems, way too many arm chair commandos (not battle tested, hurr durr) on these forms now days.

Not hate at all, just utter disappointment at the lack of tolerance and empathy combined with the total embrace of completely immoral behavior that seems to be common here. As a Canadian I thought these values were part of our national spirit, and am distraught that people who claim to be the first to "Support the troops" and be "Patriotic" would be not only completely ignorant as to what that would actually entail, but be glorifying those working in opposition to it. What is it Canadians have gone to fight for, and continue to do to this day? There are many correct answers to this question, but one thing that doesn't belong there is so those they fought for could reverse the roles.

How you came up with this response to that video, I'll never know. I'll just assume your a crazy person.

So here's this.

Question my credibility, doesn't bother me.
Failure on CSA x39, broken bolt left, cz858 middle un damaged, VZ58 replacement bolt right, all different in shape.

When it failed the bolt jammed half open(or shut for you pessimists) requiring a mortar to open it.
My cz858 the striker sheared in half causing failure to fires, sorry no pic but take my word for it, if not meh...
My XCR needed a new BHO pin and the firing pin sheared, but the gun kept going.
I run my guns hard, carbine class type shooting, but I look after them.

Meh, while id love to own a tavor id love to have my xcr back first, i let it go under dire straits.

I had my xcr for a few years, beat and abused the piss out of it, and by that I dont mean it got a little dust on it or i took it out on a humid day. I mean it covered thousands of kilometers on my back or strapped to the rack atv'ing, dirtbiking and hiking. It got soaked, it got submerged, covered in mud and put away caked in it for months. I have pics, i mean litterally as in its features were hidden under 1/2" of concreted clay mud.

Im effin terrible at matinence, i run my cars, trucks, bikes, sleds and guns right into the ground.
I took pretty damb good care of that xcr for the first 500ish rounds, then put about 4500.. Yes four thousand five hundred rounds through it without any cleaning at all period, however i did oil it 2-3-4 times throughough that period.

I had done a 100% complete teardown/clean/lube/and locktite the day i bought it. Nothing ever came loose and i had 1 single fail to fire due to a dud primer, and a half dozen ish bob's due to myself not fully inserting the mag.

I belive the new owner has also been putting it through its paces, he reported one stoppage, i dont know what the cause was.

Id do plan on buying another xcr, if not my old one. I put 5000 flawless rounds through it under terrible conditions with almost zero matinence. I am let down by just about every purchase ive ever made, but my glock 20 and that xcr restored my faith in human beings and the products they sell.

And if we're going to talk about awkward front heavy, hahaha.
Im not a big guy, im 5'6", 155 lb. I had never fiddled around with tactical shooting, i had never even shot a semi auto centerfire untill i got this thing. That day i put 200 rounds through. 2 days later i entered in a tac-rifle shoot.....i remind you ive never done anytbing like this or handled anything like this.. I scored 8th place after being dq'd for "breaking 90". Competing against people with reflex's, red dots and experience. I had none of those... This was my cherry popping with iron sights, i was fully handicapped. So if little ole me can muster that anchor around the course with results like that, weight is a moot point. Perhaps in top level competition, but not for the masses.

Any firearm that requires me to apply judicious amounts of red loctite to it in order to prevent it from disassembling itself is not a firearm I have any interest in owning. It is laughable for anyone to even attempt to argue that such a firearm could ever be considered a legitimate military small arm. Add to that the fact that the owner of Rob Arms is a massive douche, and he essentially screwed over M-96 owners, prior to the launch of the XCR, and there is no way I'd ever consider spending $2500+ for a rifle that, charitably, shouldn't retail for anymore than $800-$900.

So you are classing an XCR in the same range as a JR Carbine or Norinco? Lol.. Have you owned or shot either of these? An XCR might be overpriced due to it being in the non restricted class, but so is almost every other rifle with that classification in this country. You pay a premium in Canada to be able to take a decent gun into the bush and shoot it. Either way the XCR is worth more then 800$ lol.

I was choosing between the two as well. Guys say Tavor is more accurate and is "battle proven". My response is a $700 hunting rifle like a Tikka T3 is far more accurate then either rifle. So if you care to be sub moa then buy a hunting rifle. If your happy with 2" groups which is good enough to kill anything larger then a field mouse then either listed rifle will do just fine. And battle proven???? I don't know what these guys are thinking about in their spare time, but I really don't plan on enlisting in the military and putting my life in the hands of the gun I chose to buy, like seriously.

I thought both guns were awesome. I just picked the XCR only because I felt like a giant holding the tavor. Maybe its just not my cup of tea, but I felt like it was a little small for me. I'm 6'4" and have arms like a ape, so I felt so congested shouldering it. Yes I know there is someone on here bigger than I am who can shoulder it no problem. I'm jst saying I didn't like it. Go shoulder them and see for yourself.

The Nigerian SSS carries the tavor, they use it...ummmm.... A lot. Our base also hosts the sayeret - omlt team. SSS is learning how to do HRT, planes, boats, compounds... The nigerian govt wants to start charging for this service instead of having the insurance companies' private security companies do it. The prez protection team uses Uzi. so I guess they are an iwi shop. Still lots of love for ak tho.

No xcr round these parts.

Xcr, not my first choice.

Well, I officially own both, now. Really like the XCR Micro, but there are way too many hex bolts holding things together... hence the need for Loctite, I suppose. Still prefer my Tavor :)

How many times am I going to see xcr or tavor fourms..... I think we should just have a battle royale... Settle this once and for all. :)

I own both and love both. 2 different rifles (my xcr is an M) and have a great time at the range. If I knew someone with land and gophers or coyotes it would be nice. If shtf I'll get both in the truck. Both have 1-2 moa but if it came down to cqb vs open field, there's my choice made by the battlefield.
