I went out to the range this evening to sight in my Tikka T3 Lite in .308 Winchester. The scope is a new Redfield Revolution 3-9x50mm. While starting off the sighting in at 50 yards to just get it on the paper, I ran out of windage clicks going right. This is the first time I've had issues with a new scope mount job. I looked at the screws on the rings and noticed that one side was tightened down than the other. I'm attaching pics to show you what I mean. Could this be the cause of the too much to the left scenario I find myself in?

The rings look too high and the scope does not appear to be mounted properly. I'd pick up a set of Weaver Grand Slam 1" low rings and maybe find someone who has lots of experience mounting scopes. Although, the low rings may be too low for a 50mm objective...

Why did you go for a 50mm objective?

Is there any play in the receiver mounts if you loosen the screws? I think its the rings - not the scope. They don't look too high to me though, given the objective size. 50mm is pretty big but that has nothing to do with windage. I also think that the gap in the front right side of the front ring might be pulling the scope to the left, limiting your windage to the right.

I'm in no way a pro on scopes, just my opinion.

It always amazes me that people continue to put those cheap Weaver rings on a expensive rifle when there are so many better options out there. Get yourself a pair of Burris Zee Signature rings with the adjustable inserts and that will likely solve your problems. They also will not gouge your new scope as you probably will find those Weavers have already done.

Talking about better options, I can't believe I forgot to suggest Talley one piece lightweight rings. Also, you don't really gain anything by getting a 50mm objective on a 3-9 scope, other than making it more difficult to mount and compromising your cheek weld.

Well ill play cuz it's pretty obvious to me .

First picture . Notice how the ring bottom has about 2x the over hang on the left of the base(while looking from behind the rifle) as it does on the right. This moves the rear of the scope to the left , moving POI to the left thus taking up all the adjustment . Loosen the screw on the right and tighten the one of the left until the spacing is even

HAving tried most mounts avail for a Tikka, the least amt of grief was with Warne rings that clamp direct to the receiver grooves. Next best was the DMZ game reaper one piece mounts. Optilocks were really good, but quite pricey.
As suggested, even out the clamp pressure on the setup you have. That should do it. Failing that then switch to another system.

If someone ever mounted a scope that looked like that for me, I can guarantee you they would lern new werds.
You spent the bulk of the money on fine equipment.
Don't cheep out on the rings.
Burris Signature Zee Rings are a fine example of a good product at an affordable price.
Heck, they even look good.

I put together a tikka t3 varmint with a viper 6.5-20 looked around for rings and bases. looked at dnz talley and optilocs. optilocs in stock at cabellas and I haven't been sorry. if I remember right 12 clicks right and around 8 down. cabellas shows online they are selling talleys now I think a great option.

Ultimate Monkey said it. Those are windage adjustable mounts (albeit really $hitty ones) and one side has likely been tightened more than the other. Take care to center the rings on the bases and you should be in business. Better yet spend a few bucks and get some decent rings and bases, those are crap. Youve got a nice gun and a good scope, your mounts are the weak link.

I got a rifle that came with a set of those rings, they were removed promptly. now if I were to use them i'd bottom out one side completely on both rings and mount them using only the one side to cinch them down (make sure they're both on the same way)
i'd personally just get new rings if I was you.

I suspect at the end of the day it will be you who is happy when your glass gets setup properly.

Tdc

Probably.

This is my hunting rifle for this year. It has to kill Mr. Moose and Mr. Deer, so I need it fully functional.
