PRC 7.62x51 in .308 Bolt Action Rifle?

I have a Remington 700 XCR tactical and have fired this stuff a few times , no issues, was damn near the most accurate non match factory ammo i have tried in that rifle ! no kidding .. I dont like to make it a habit but almost wiling to sacrifice a barrel and see how many norinco rounds it can take before losing accuracy , it shoots that well in the rifle .. never know it could be the same as any other ammo barrel life wise .. i measured about 30 projectiles and they dont seem undersized or oversized , no high or low spots on them . I might go to town shooting it , worst case i will have to re barrel sooner .., not a big deal for me ..

I shoot a Remington 700 in .308, it's my main hunting rig. A big reason for that is that I can afford to shoot it, lots, using cheaper surplus ammo. Havnt tried the bimetal stuff but it loves the brass cased norc (came in 900 round crates on machine gun belts) and ivi, south african ect. Have had no problems whatsoever.

I have a 308 bar made in 76. I was told it would hurt it if i shot this nork ammo in it. Why. I have shot 10 rounds thru it and at 50 yards it clover leafed 3 rounds. mind you it sure jumped. Almost as bad as my 22in barreled 300win.
On a side note, would it be worth while to pull the bullit and replaceing a soft nose. thanks for the help.

Perceived recoil possibly? Of course alot depends on bullet weight, and powder burn rate, but the idea that the milsurp stuff is more powerful than commercial is not the case here.

The SAMMI/CIP maximum pressure for the .308 Win cartridge is 62,000 psi, while the 7.62x51 max is 50,000 psi.

Safety is not a concern here, it is more an issue of the primers being harder on the 7.62x51 that cause problems.

Thanks It could be the shooter. Its was a first time shooter. Maybe he was not holding it tight enough. I cant shoot right now, till I figar out how to pull the triggar. I have no hand function now that I am a quad. BUT STILL LOVE GUNS LOL

This has been proven to be untrue. The two measurements were made on totally different types of equipment, using two different scales of measurement.

I can't remember where I read it but it was online somewhere. One guy with the right setup down in the US tested US surplus 7.62x51mm and Winchester .308 on the same rig with the same equipment. The difference was less than 2000psi.

And if you factor in the differences between different loads, manufacturers, temperature, etc., you will find that there is no difference.......they are the same round with two names.

I really would like it if you could remember where you saw that and post it for us. And no I have not seen the Witch Doctor yet! Not until I see your source anyway. LOL
