Tavor failure to feed?

Yea mine is probably at 1300 rds now so breakin is not a factor lol. I switched mags completely now to the new followers so hopefully that makes a difference. There really isn't much that could cause this but bad mags.

It's weird though how much the bolt pops the round out of the mag when I pull it back.

You are using LAR-10 mag. Did you load the mag to 10 rounds with the bolt closed and then pull the bolt back?
Will the feeding issue remain when loading 9 rounds in the mag?
If you load the mag with the bolt open, will the feed issue occur? How about when the 2nd load is being loaded?

Ive seen that happen on my tavor as well with a 5/30 metal u shaped mag as well. It was during feed, bolt would grab the round and it would twist and then jam with such force enough to bend the casing almost 25 degrees. just stopped using the mag, i use the caa atr 10 round mags now. With filing down to u shape works fine.

I just ordered a few caa mags so we'll see what happens. With the extra ammo coming at least I'll be able to experiment lol.

It's sounding more and more like a mag problem since other people have had issues so good to know.

Nothing beats a good old pump shotgun lol.

Make sure that you cut and file the notch into a U shape.

Redbearded... Did you buy yours new or was it used ? I'm wondering if some of these guns are being butchered at some point with people trying to take them apart.

New. But I tore my rifle right down before a round went through it and they all went back the way they came, just as the armorers manual says. My rifle worked great for almost a thousand rounds before issues occurred. I'm more concerned with whether quality control has suffered and parts have went out of the factory that weren't to the proper spec.

Tavor reliability issues really seem to be popping up lately. My rifle has done the same a bunch of times but has bigger problems with short stroking to the point of being unshootable.

But...but I thought they were "battle tested"???
Shame to hear about your issues, is it an ammo specific thing?

In follow-up to my last message. I tried 3 kinds of ammo and 4 types of mags with the problem is still there so it's the gun.

So now the quest continues to resolve the problem. Meanwhile I'm starting to consider flipping the darn thing.

This is an urban legend/myth - I can attest that all variants of PMAGs will run flawlessly. Some of you must really need an excuse to get a new Dremel... ;)

Is anyone that is experiencing problems that has NOT taken their gun apart (full disassembly of the barrel).

Followup questions... when you say you've tried 3 or 4 different magazines, were these the same type or actually different, like LAR, Magpul or Lancer? And did you try loading with 8 or 9 rounds instead of 10? And last, did you try swapping out one of the followers for a Magpul version? And forget the notching thing...

I went with D & H 5/30, two generations or LAR mags and the new CAAs.

The failure happened throughout the mag and both when loaded with a bolt open and closed.

The 5/30 I only did with 5 rounds. The others I tried them with both 10 and 5 during the testing.

This is only happening when shooting off a bench, yes? If it's fine free-standing I'm inclined to think it's something to do with the pressure being placed on the magazine. The CAA magazines have been prone to follower sticking issues, and some G95 sprayed in the internals fixed it for me. You could try that and see if it makes a difference. I'd also be inclined to try a 20/5-round PMAG loaded to 4 only 4 rounds.

I think that I'm at my ends with playing with the mags. I got this rifle to be a tool, if I can't rely on it then its going to find itself on EE very quickly !
