.338 blr

That would be awesome. I just started shooting a 338 Federal using factory ammo. They clocked about 2750fps and recoil was manageable. It would be a great calibre for that rifle.
 
I've seen opinion that the long action version of the BLR doesn't extract well. Has to do with the rack and pinion lever/bolt system
and the gear ratio needed for the long versus medium action variants.

The BLR is fairly lightweight (aluminum receiver), so shooting it in heavier-recoiling cartridges would be less pleasant :-(
 
Shooting a 338 Federal with 185 grainers is pretty much like shooting a 308 with 180 grainers. Moving up to 210 grainers would be much like a 30-06 recoil and they made the BLR in that.
 
If I recall correctly someone on this board rebarreled one to 338 fed about a year ago. Maybe they will chime in. I would be interested in one if they made a run but I suspect they will stick with the 358 win

The .338 in question is .338 federal, based on the .308 win.
 
This has been mentioned before, you have the 358 Winchester that will handle whatever the 338 Federal might be used for.
How about the 260 Remington?
All the cartridges based on the 308 would be nice to have in the BLR.
My favourite BLR is the 257 Roberts, not based on the 308 but a good all around cartridge.
