SKS Ranges

i have shot mine at 100m standing 200m sitting with about a 8ich group and 300 prone with about a 12" group i tried shooting at 5oom with irons but i only got one hit out of 10 on the target face, then figured out the norinco silver hits low and i needed to use the 700m mark to start hitting a man size target. bone stock russian sks with a sling( young eyes)

Barnaul 123gr FMJ at 50, 100, and 220 meters using a Bubba'd SKS with a cheap scope.

I was ready to call BS then I realized the target was a basic standard piece of paper which is 11" - 8.5" and the small squares were .25" not an 1" My bad.

Nicely done. Wish I could get that kind of accuracy from my SKS.

Thanks! The squares are indeed 1", and I need at least an 8 1/2" x 11" white thing to shoot at or I wouldn't have even found it in the scope at 220m. I shot from a bag with a decently mounted scope as I find my groups get better if I try to minimize my involvement in the shooting process: I'm the first to admit I'm an average shot on a good day. I found the Barnaul shot really well: I didn't post any of the paper I punched with MFS or Federal Fusion because the groups would be twice that size. I'm still handloading 7.62 x 39 once in a blue moon looking for that special combination, but so far I don't have anything useful to say about it. I think I'll switch to IMR 4895 from R7 and try my luck with a few batches.

I guess what everyone says about the SKS equation being RussianGun+RussianAmmo=Good is true.

I remember reading a post about someone shooting it at 1000 yards i think he was grouping about 8 feet. Posting would be about 5 years ago if someone has the upgraded account they could look for it and repost.
