NEA Rail Issue

I received one of the new batches in the mail, assembling a AR for a friend. I never dealt with this style before.
But first impression something isn't right.

Isnt the gas tube suppose to sit in between the grooves Or does the gas tube sit on top?

I don't know about the new style but the old ones twist into place when they're against the receiver. Try it on the receiver.

The new barrel nut is just sitting in there now, you have to install it then the rail. The rail twists into place.

Like I said ive never dealt with this system before and lack of instructions is always great.

This is the style I'm used to. But even with the NEA style the Gas tube must sit a the groove then. But its off by alot.

Install barrel with barrel nut, place gas block with gas tube on.

Slide rail on, twist until lined up with upper.

Tighten

* aware barrel nut is in backwards, But its to show HOW much its off.

I haven't, But doing research and looking at Delta Rings other FF Barrel nuts, ( Same setup ) It suppose to ( how can you when the notch is always at 12 o clock obstructing the gas tube, only way the rail will sit in the barrel nut ) So no matter how much I mock up how it suppose to sit, The barrel NUT is index wrong.

Hence why I haven't installed it yet.

The rail will slide onto the barrel nut at an angle. Once the rail is touching the upper it can be rotated on the barrel nut to line up with the upper. Then tighten it down.


You'll notice inside of the rail, there is a groove that runs around the entire inside. This is where it rotates on the barrel nut.

The grooves that run lengthwise just allow you to slide the rail onto the barrel nut. This is not where it should stay.

As Farmboy has indicated, this will all sort itself out when you put the barrel nut in place.

From looking at this photo, you can see how once the nut is aligned with the channel for the gas tube being at 12 o'clock, the teeth on the barrel nut will be obscured by the nubs on the rail once twisted into position, preventing the rail from sliding off the nut. Then all you do is tighten.

You may find varying levels of resistance when twisting the rail into position, but, for the most part, it should twist into position nice and snug, and all you then do is tighten up the tab on the bottom.
