Well in my research of carbon fiber barrels I've come across the Proof Research barrel manufacturer and their carbon wrapped barrels. Gotta say on paper it seems to be pretty impressive stuff and prehaps something that I'd look to a build in the far future. Lightweight, durable, match stainless liners, and is supposed to shed heat faster than traditional materials. Very appealing with a bull barrel profile and a rifle you can build to be less than 10lbs after optics.

^ Really try that with any traditional material and I'd think you'd experience more than just a POI change. Of course POI shift is expected when you pull off and put on a barrel anyway, it still grouped afterward. I put that vid in the black rifle forum but I think it may have better appreciation here.

AFAIK Alberta Tactical can bring in these barrels, if any other forum sponsors can feel free to add them to the thread. :D

That's pretty amazing… Poi only changed an inch and a half or so, but the point is it still grouped well! like you say just taking the barrel off and putting it back in changes things a bit in itself, great video, thanks!!

I wonder how the carbon fiber feels in the cold. I know metal tends to get a bit frosty in the winter.

Hmm, interesting...more reasons I'll never use my savings account.

at a quarter the weight and same contour and length.....

Fromproof research:
2) How much do they weigh?
Generally speaking our bolt action barrels will weigh in between 3# & 3.5#. AR barrels will weigh in between 1.5# and 2.5# dependent upon length and journal size.

so it's more an half weigh reduction if you compare a sendero profile(what proof research call they't go to contour).
I'm not hating but it's still expensive for 50% reduction weight and unproved long term performance.
For now i want to read really long term review(Canadian review). Theyr commercial video are not convincing.
after that i will buy one. but for now i trust more good old steel.

I got mine through Sean at North Shore. I think the weight reduction is a little less than half but if the weight reduction is important then it would be worth your while.
Proof can wrap any barrel ie. Krieger, Hart, Benchmark... or they have their own "in house" barrels that they are wrapping using a slightly different process.
Their "in house" barrels are made by a company called Lawrence I believe.
Here is a pic of mine before assembly, its a Benchmark BTW.

I will be chambering and installing a proof barrel next week it will be a 6.5 creedmore the barrel is a benchmark that came from Gary Eakin. They definitely are spendy.

My next big rifle that I want to build is going to be kind of the opposite of my 260AI which weighs around 25lb.

I am planning to build a LR Hunter/Target rifle with the goal of making it lighter. Eberlestock ultralight Al Stock, Carbon Fiber Bbl, and some type of lightweight custom action. I wasn't aware of this barrel maker aside from Christenson Arms barrels.

Something like this with a Proof research bbl

Have you seen the price on the Eberlestock, absolutely nuts!

I have, I was at SHOT and discussed the whole system with the reps there in detail. Amazing stocks but very pricy.

They have been coming down in price now. The MSRP on the cobra in the pic above is 1295, which is in the AICS/JAE price range. My JAE 700 Stock was about 1600$ after all the mods.

The Stealth with the folding buttstock is the really pricy one, starting at $1,895 for the base model.

Do they use the same Process as ABS does? If not then I'd take an ABS barrel over a proof research barrel anyday...

Proof Research IS ABS. The primary from ABS is one of the majors in Proof Research. I have been to their factory and seen how the barrels are wrapped. Its a pretty cool process and produces a very impressive barrel.

If I had the coin I would do the exact same thing in 7mmSAUM or 280AI. That, to me, would be the ultimate light weight(relatively) long range mountain set up!
