Barrel/Action won't come out of Stock

Hey guys,

I tried to remove the barrel/action from the stock of my Ruger Gunsite Scout as per its instruction manual, but it wouldn't budge. All the fasteners were out but the barrel assembly would not release from the stock no matter what I did (persuasive language, a few tugs here, a few pushes there) so I just buttoned it up again and left it.
Other than getting a rubber hammer and beating it out, what can be done?
 
First thing.......are you sure all the fasteners were removed?
Any movement between the stock and action?
I would add some CLP or some other such non harmful lube along the
stock/barrel line and work the two pieces so the lube will git in there.
 
Don't spray anything, anywhere. Especially oil if it's a wood or laminated stock. Oil will damage the wood. Thump the end of the barrel on something firm but soft. My glass bedded .243 does that too. It gets thumped on my futon.

So far as I can tell from the manual and from all the time I've spent handling and cleaning this rifle, there are only 4 fasteners and they were all out. There was 0 movement in the barrel or action when I tried to bring it out.
 
is it new. any chance its bedded and just stuck. if its bedded pop it in the freezer for a few hours then give the barrel a whack with a rubber mallet. if its new and unbedded look for more fastners.
 
If you did all these steps h ttp://www.gunsumerreports.com/review_ruger_m77-gs_p4.php then it could be the action was installed while the finish on the stock was still wet which means it may be lightly glued. You could try a few light taps with a rubber mallet as mentioned to see if it pops loose.
 
My M-70 featherweight is like that. When I first bought it you couldn't separate the action from the stock for love nor money. It would show slight movement but that's all. I got some much longer action screws threaded them well into the action and firmly tapped on them alternately with a wooden mallet. Came apart no problem. It was just bedded real snug. I have since put a little gun grease on the bedding and action lug it is much better but still very tight. Needs a little persuasion to get them to separate.

So if you think yours is just stuck like mine you could try what I did.
 
Had new guns that were stuck before. Usually just a tight fit, couple of taps with something not too hard seems to sort it out.
 
My GSR was in there real tight. It almost looked like some sort of fluid had dried and stuck the action into the stock. It needed a smack to get it out.
