what do you classify as a 'premium' hunting rifle?

Getting pretty close to hunting season. Looking at the comments above it appears that some are getting excited!

I feel sorry for elementary school teachers around Christmas ;)

"...is a $5K rifle so good that..." Means nothing if the rifle doesn't shoot well. And a high price doesn't guaranttee accuracy.
"...re-stalking..." What? Stocking? I wouldn't bother. A ND buffler hunt is a once in a life time hunt for most of us. Might as well be a bit flashy. Mind you, I wouldn't spend 4 grand for a name.

What makes it such? Killing something?

Most rifle shots aren't fired to kill things, they even show up in the olympics still, where they are sporting equipment, not weapons. Weapon denote a very specific, and to me, military or defensive role. I consider hunting a sport, not a weaponized pursuit, so to me and it seems Supercub my rifles are tool of my sport. Golf clubs and baseball bats kill a lot of folks annually, and they're only weapons when used as such.

So if you kill a deer with a bat it's a weapon but if you use a rifle it's still just a firearm? Interesting.

Most people are so ####ing stupid that they don't realize that buying into the liberal notion that firearms are not weapons is hurting all gun owners. It is OK for us to own and use weapons only liberals and idiots who can't think for themselves buy into anything else. The whole a weapon is only a weapon when in use is pure horse #### and is only the case in the legal sense for knives, and in Canada only.

Those who are to naive and foolish to see that their gentrification of the firearms community is going to cause us a lot of grief. Can't wait til we can't buy a PWS carbine as it is marketed as a weapon...same goes with KAC, etc.

Most firearms were designed to be used as weapons. VERY few are used or designed strictly for target shooting. Stop the brainwashing. Stop the stupidity. Carry your weapon proudly.

I built my own rifle. Picked the cartridge, barrel, action and stock. Had a couple of top notch guys put it together. Nothing gives me more satisfaction or big smiles than that rifle. One of a kind and all mine. It is my 'premium' rifle. It ran me around 2K to build without scope. That's a lot of money to me, but worth it. I shoot it 12 months of the year and enjoy every outing. If it gets marked up while I'm hunting, I will think of those marks as a log of my experiences in the woods, doing what I love the most. If I had another 2K to spend on a rifle, I would build again. I get to choose all of the details.... action style, trigger, safety, barrel contour, twist, stock material, shape and color...

I purchase nothing but good quality rifles. Quality defined as reliable, very accurate, fit and finish, workmanship, craftsmanship and quality of materials. Weatherby, cooper, sako, blaser, etc. Kimber yes, but it requires a little heavier barrel. For accuracy cooper has been the best so far that I have owned. Their only downfall possibly with hunters is that it's robust and heavy, however; this has no impact on me nor my son.

Model 56 Cooper, 7mm STW, 3 shots, 100 meters

Model 52 Cooper, 6.5x284 Norma, three shots, 100 meters

Thanks, glad to hear you feel I'm "So ##$$%%* stupid". Couldn't care less if you disagree, do care about brash insults, the good news is we now share equal opinions of each other. :)

Stop supporting a liberal notion and agenda while thinking you are pro-gun and I won't point out how stupid your beliefs/actions are.

He's an opinionated gaffer. Hate to break it to you, but it's the left who views all firearms as weapons- there is no "Liberal" notion of sporting firearms, to them, they're all weapons. I don't feel like jumping in that ship, thanks.

And with that, ignore list on please add me to yours as well, don't have time for sharp insults in a place I come for enjoyment.

I am at a loss with your position in these discussions............how is a rifle, sporting or otherwise NOT being referred to as a weapon, a liberal notion, in your opinion.
