Savage Axis. What caliber? Suggestions?

I got a Rifle Basix trigger for my Savage Stevens 200. It was definitely the missing link on that gun. Very easy to install if you have basic mechanical skills, can follow instructions and own a tube of blue Loctite.
 
You will be good for coyotes around london with either a 223 or 243.......no hunting with larger than a 270 in that area and definately no centerfire deer season. Archery and muzzleloaders or shotguns only. Cant speak for the axis though. Can say I like those redfield scopes.
 
I waited and looked around until i found a stainless 223 not in a package
figured might as well invest in the barrel instead of get the scope i wouldnt want
i love it accurate out of the box great rifle.
Slight flex on front but for bench shooters like myself that are always on a tripod not a issue
Would be fantastic for a Boyds stock

For the stock, I filled the empty chambers with fiber glass bondo.. Then with a file and Dremel tool made sure there was extra clearance around the barrel. I know the bondo sounds kind of bubba-like but the fiber glass type is tough and will stand up to vibrations.

As for the trigger, I don't want to say. The way I did it is safe, but because I'm not a gunsmith, I can't share it. (always safety first) The safety works excellent, and when it's cocked, I can "hammer" away on the stock and it will not fire unless the trigger is purposely pulled. An after market trigger is the way to go.

I have the .223 so don't expect to notice any flex (maybe on larger calibers). The pistol grip area is a little too thin and should be thicker girth, other than that I think it looks quite nicely contoured. I've only shot one round so far.
 
i have the axis 223, put a higher zoom varmint scope and a bipod on it, i also did the "do it yourself youtube trigger job" on it, brought the pull down to 4 lbs; i think it is awesome... i have a family member with the 243 and the 308, she put an upgraded scope on the 308 though, both calibers are awesome too.... i think for under $500 including new scopes, you cant go wrong with these!

I just got an Axis XP in .223 and put a Redfield Revolution 3-9x onto it and its a good consistent shooter I just need to get the scope lined up perfectly when I get a new battery for my bore sighter.

Going to make an awesome Coyote & Deer hunting rifle down the road, I'll get some targets posted next time I go shooting of how it performs with factory ammunition, all I've shot so far is 55gr JHP and FMJ with good results despite scope not zeroed in.
