best semi auto waterfowl?

I've seen alot of benelli super black eagle II lately. Is that the best semi auto waterfowl shotgun?
I'll be shooting clay with it too.
I would like something that helps with recoil as my shoulder is totally bruised this morning after 3 boxes.

FWIW, I've shot a round of trap with an SBE and found little recoil reduction, compared to gas autoloaders.

What do you mean by 'best'?

The brand names are all pretty reliable. I'd go with whichever one points well for you. Go to a gun store and play with a few, see what feels right. If you're having recoil issues look into some better recoil pads.

Like kennymo stated that all the brand names are a good option but ya gotta see what feels best in your hands. Most of the higher priced ones are adjustable for the shooter so keep that in mind. I have had a bunch over the years, Beretta XTrema, Rem 11-87 & 870 super mags, Benelli super Vinci and the last one I had was the Rem versamax. I would rate the Super Vinci my fav and the Rem 11-87 my least fav. All were good guns but were all sold off to fund other in season projects as its not like its hard to find a shotgun and I got no need for one in the off season. The Benelli Super Vinci may take some getting used to in the looks department but I found it to be the best out of all the ones I listed as it cycled everything I could put thru it dirty, clean, short, long, old, or new this gun would not stop for nothin. That's my opinion, but in the end it's your wallet that will be opening up.
Regards.

The Beretta A391 Xtrema 2 is a good one to consider. It has their recoil reduction technology built in which dampens down heavy waterfowl loads. Comes in at least two camo colors that I know of and accepts 3 1/2 inch shells.

Get the gun that fits you, and shooting steel, when are you shooting 3 boxes in a day, damn! Just try the lighter charges but you would need to bring the waterfowl in closer. If its 3 boxes of clay targets your shooting at, invest in some reloading equiptment, 3/4 and 7/8 oz have little to no recoil, or might just need a smaller ga. gun

There are a few good ones to choose from nowadays, I like the Benelli's, but Berretta, and Remington are good choices as well.

My SX3 does a good job at reducing recoil. I've had it jam only once in the 1279 rounds that I've put through it. Find the one that fits you best and buy it. If you have friends that have semi-automatics or belong to a gun club, try shooting a round of skeet/trap/sporting clays with one of those guns.

bearkiler said it; "The more money they cost, the better they are". When it comes to anything auto or Glass, this rule applies. Believe me, I have tried to find a way around it and it doesn't work!

My X400 Unico with KO works like a dream, but it stays in the safe most of the time. My 870 express is the one that I carry for everything! There is a point here: "what fits you better" overrides "what is the best".

My Benelli Vinci is the best waterfowl semi for me, fits like it was made specifically for me.

Probably my favorite in my whole collection !

The best two waterfowl semis on the market are IMO the Benelli SBEII and Beretta A400 Xplor Unico. If recoil is an issue I'd suggest the Beretta because the gas action is easier on the shoulder than Benelli's inertia plus Beretta offers the Kick-Off recoil reduction system. Another advantage to the Beretta gas system is the capacity to handle lighter loads if you are doing much clay shooting.

The advantage for the Benelli is simplicity. It's easier to clean and I think more robust. Look at both and if possible shoot them.

well whats the best semi auto waterfowl shotgun?

That's such a general question that a true answer is not likely. There are many gun owners who have had positivie or negative experiences with any given brand/model. If you get X number of opinions as to who thinks which is best, how does that help answer your question. The only way an individual could answer that type of question is to have owned every brand/make. As far as semi-autos, I have only a Remington 1187 and a Mossberg 930 that are used for waterfowl. Both have given me no grief at all. So based on that, you would think I'd say that either of these are the best semi's for waterfowl. But that would be totally inaccurate as I cannot answer which semi-auto is the best because there are so many that I have not tried. As a generalization, as mentioned, the higher priced guns may be the best. But that may not always be true either. A lot of factors go into an individual's taste as to which may be the best for him/her.

SBE2 it is then.

STOP! Get the Beretta. I've used an Xtrema 2 for 4 years, and no matter what mother nature throws at you, the gun doesn't get slippery, goes bang all the time, easy to use with gloves/mitts (you do hunt when it's -15, don't you), bird blood won't corrode the camo finish, and it cycles everything, even reduced recoil buckshot loads. It's not hard to disassemble to clean. I tried an SBE2 and the Xtrema 2 side by side, 2 minutes apart before I made up my mind. The Eagle cylces very "snappily", and wasn't pleasant. The gas system of the Beretta is smoother cycling, according to my cheek anyways. I
don't have the Kick-Off system on mine, but if you can, get it. It dampens recoil better than any other pad/device on the market, and that's not propaganda. I participated in independent testing using pretty high tech equipment, and belive me, it dampened the best.

Hope you read this before going shopping.
