SKS Pin-On Muzzle Break doesn't fit right

So I've got this Pin-On SKS Muzzle Brake from a local army surplus store (not from hical, but here's the link to one that's very similar, if not the same)

I tried to attach it, and although it's clearly for an SKS (all the groves and parts line up perfectly) it's very loose. Clearly this would be unsafe to actually shoot- and I don't like the idea of shimming it or modding it to fit- but I'm wondering if I've done something wrong. There is a lot of up/down movement, and I've got it on there as tight as it'll go.

Here are some pictures of the muzzle break:
(note: I put a little hockey tape on the inside, just so it didn't scratch the bluing when I put it on/take it off)

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution.

***UPDATE***

so, I've removed and reinstalled the muzzle break- and to my surprise the stupid thing actually fits BETTER/tighter when it's installed upside-down. I know that it's upside-down because the grove for the removal of the cleaning rod is now on the top instead of the bottom where it belongs. I'm starting to wonder if this muzzle break is just not designed for a '53 tula.
The page on hical that i referenced earlier says "•Replaces Front Sight Pin on most SKS Barrels" MOST being the operative word.

Also, I'm wondering what they mean by "front sight pin", I don't see any replacing as being necessary here.

OK- SO, I've removed the muzzle break again and now I've got pictures:
(note, I've put a little piece of hockey tape on the inside of the break to prevent it from scratching the blueing off the muzzle)





























AND LAST, here is the one that HIcal is selling. (NOT THE SAME AS MINE)
Notice the extra slit near where the front sight post would fit.

Horror stories? or horror opinions? I've been looking around CGN for input from people, and I've heard a lot of negative opinions, but not much actual in the way of anecdotal evidence or guidance.

From a US forum thread about the NcStar brakes:

This isn't the NcStar one but it's what can happen if you can't get it to fit tightly.

With a good brake there is almost no muzzle rise allowing you to stay on target good enough that you can see where you hit it through the scope. They also make it louder which is nice.. lol, and look good if that's what you like. Mystery solved.

Good job on the photos!

I can't suggest more than making a jury-rig gasket, like others have said. Hope it works out for you.
 
The clamp style like you have is actually the worse type of muzzle/comp.

The best solution is to thread the end of the barrel concentric with the bore. But who will pay a gunsmith 75@100 bucks to thread a barrel on a 160 bucks rifle which have almost no recoil ? Not me...

My advice is to not put one but my guess is that is your first SKS and you want to add alot of *crap* :pirate: on the rifle and that's ok, its your rifle. But keep in mind the SKS machining tolerances are pretty loose. If you have a vernier caliper, make sure the bore is concentric with the outside diameter of the barrel. If its not, *bad* :evil: things can happens.

If you really want to put one, IMO the only *good* fitting muzzle brake for an SKS is this one.
Its more a compensator than a muzzle but 7.62X39 doesn't have much recoil so what you want to fight is muzzle climb.

Fits tight, and its locked in place with a dowel pin. This one will never come loose.

My original questions was: why isn't mine fitting?
Is it possible that this particular muzzle break is designed for a Norinco SKS? or some other manufacture?

If it doesn't fit mine, and I'm going to sell it- I should know what to tell a person who might be interested in buying it. Other than just saying "this doesn't work, here- take it".

Just be honest, it fit loose on your rifle and may require shimming.
