Picked up a new Marlin 1895G yesterday- everything looked okay except for the front sight (pretty nasty). It looks like the sight is a bit crooked, rised, and not pushed in all the way. I'm not too worried about this as I am intending on replacing these sights with an XS Ghost Ring and scope. Should I be worried? Any thoughts/comments?

To me it looks like the dovetail on the left side of the sight base looking from the muzzle end is cut higher than the right side. I think the sight insert is okay, just needs a new sight base.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm looking at getting the XS Rail with the peep sight, so that means taking the stock front sights off and replacing it with the XS sight.

Is it the only problem you had with your marlin? I'm still hesitant to buy a new marlin.

Haven't fired it yet, but I hope that's the only problem. I opened up another new box in the store and that gun seemed to have a similar problem. The wood fit to the frame was pretty good though.

wow...that amazes me that they missed it, what else did they miss....or worse they saw it and still sent it out! i'm shocked that marlin/rem still haven't sorted this out yet, it's been three years already.
