The .308, 300wm and 338 seem to be the go to rounds for getting out to 1000 yd.
Does anyone use the 6.5 Creedmoor, it seems like good round to try.
If you use the 6.5 let me know what you think, I'm wanting something and can't make up my mind.
There's to many toy's to pick from.

It'll push the 139-142's fast enough to get there, but anything with more case capacity will do it better, do you need better? that's up to you.
I shoot a 260 and wouldn't want any less case capacity, a little more wouldn't hurt, and to me having lapua brass was important.
 
Ask CGNer Minnihiill2 - I think he's more than satisfied with his to 1000. I also have a buddy who is a complete long range noob who shoots a Creedmore. He's had a bit of coaching from a few guys at a private range and he's making hits out to 1420 yards with factory ammunition and a bone stock Savage 10. I think he's happy...

Creedmoor is nothing special and its lack of decent brass make it something I'd avoid personally, but since discussions like this tend to be about seeking validation for someone else's choices, be prepared for contrary points of view. 6.5-284 is still one of the best long range 6.5 cartridges going. 260 and 260AI are also good and the good old 6.5X55 still puts a smile on my face. All three have Lapua brass available too. End of discussion for me.
 
I shoot with 2 guys with creedmoor's, highly over rated, there words not mine. Creedmoor's only like a very limited amount of bullets and weights(BORING), I can shoot my 6.5 55 Rem700 with a shilen barrel with the guys all day long. Don't be fooled by the cool name as they were. Again from them not me !!!
 
I just got one and in a stable of very accurate rifles that I own, it stands out at my most accurate.....It's definitely not some miracle cartridge but from my limited experience it is a very solid 6.5 and seems to be fast gaining popularity with the long range crowd. It could quite possibly be the perfect sheep and goat cartridge anyhow.

Lots of excellent 6.5 cal bullets out there. I'm liking mine (Mod 12 LRP) so far, same 1-8" twist as the 260 Rem, same bullets. Haven't burned enough powder yet to say whether it does anything better than the 260 though. Out of the box accuracy has been excellent with the SST's and the heavier AMAX.

6.55x55 holds more powder but doesn't fit in the short action. Potato, potatoe.

They creedmore is not a very good cartridge.......if you wanna go 6.5, shoot 47 lapua or 260AI Thats what all the big dog's shoot!!! But ya know the puppies still have to learn,it takes time......
 
That is the beauty, i dont like to follow the big dogs, i like to go my way with the good and the bad... JP.

6.5 Creedmore, 6.5X47, 260 Rem, and 6.5X55 are all very close in performance. The Swede needs a long action so that's out if you have a short. I wouldn't get a Creedmore just to thumb my nose at Hornady for their loading manual BS...make the 260 look weaker by not showing loads for 120/123 A-Max and showing load data for the 140 A-Max with a retarded COL...

Aint that the truth! Like another responder just said, there are so many cartridges that offer very similar results that I would make my choice based on components available, thats why I would choose one of the chamberings that are supported with Lapua brass. I find it the absolute best of the brands I have tried and it is the deal maker for me.
 
I honestly had it built for no other reason than it was new...I love playing with new cartridges and as long as that crap Hornady brass keeps punching .3MOA groups, I'll likely keep this one. ;)

I have never tried the Hornady brass but if it is working that good it must be decent. When I jumped on the 260 band wagon, the 6.5 Creedmore was just coming on the scene so I went with what I thought was the best offering for what I wanted and needed at the time.

New stuff is cool too! Not dissin' anyones choice!
