Is there a permanent fix for a firearm with a rusty bore? I've been searching online and on this forum but all I've been able to find is info on cleaning them and stopping the rusting process. If I'm willing to pay the money do some gunsmiths offer a permanent fix?

No. Metal cannot be replaced without a great deal of trouble. If physical chunks of the bore are damaged by oxidization, there isn't much that can be done.

I clean with a variety of chemical agents that attack chemical powder fouling, copper deposits and rust buildup. Each one does something different. When I've finished cleaning, I use petroleum oil or grease to block the air and humidity. There are no secrets, just chemistry.

Ive looked into it also, and have found that once its rusted and pitted, there is no cure. You can stop it from getting worse but thats about it.
How bad is it rusted?

My dad was basically given a rifle chambered in 7mm magnum that was keyholing bullets because the barrel was rusty. Solution was to cut it 2" shorter and recrown, shoots great now. If it is only at the end of the barrel and it is long enough to do it legally, that might be the best option.

Hey Mac, what gun? what condition?

CZ 858. Almost positive the guy shot some corrosive surplus, didn't clean it, then let it sit for a while. I cleaned it the best I could and got most of not all of the surface rust off but now theres obviously some pitting. I ran a patch with gun oil through afterwords too.

Be generous with the oil and give it a good wipe with a patch before your shoot it. Any rust will come out when you shoot it. Clean it and oil properly when you're done. The 858 doesn't have a chrome bore?

I had an 858 with a rusty bore and couldn't scrub it out. Took it to the range to test if it was still somewhat accurate. Gun shot well. Took it home to clean it then realized the rust was gone. The shooting probably flaked all the rust out.

Some times you just luck out.. it's a shame when it can't be recouvered though..

If its surface rust, you can do that, its the deep well pitted rust, its permanently damaged, unless its extremely bad you can clean it and still shoot it .

There's no fix for rust. Rust is Nature returning a man made thing to its natural state. However, there are products that are made to remove rust. Try one of 'em. Crappy Tire, et al. Sometimes a slightly rusted and pitted barrel will still shoot fairly well too.
