SKS Trigger Job?

Been debating smoothing out the trigger on the SKS.

The only "modification" I would ever consider to an SKS at all.

I have done a similar job on my Ruger 10/22 following a video tutorial and it worked very well.

I'm pretty handy but it seems a bit daunting.

Anyone on these boards with experience known to offer the service for a fee?

If you can polish up a 10/22 you can do an SKS. The simplest method is to smooth out the sear rails and rail cutouts in the sear itself. This is where most of the grittiness comes from. After that you can smooth out the sear engagement on the trigger and correct the sear angle. Once that's done the long creep will be even more noticeable. Shortening the sear corrects this. It is sometimes necessary to shorten the upper disconnector where it catches the trigger. This is only necessary after removing material from the sear when correcting the angle and is very obvious to spot and correct once you get to that point. Now surfaces do not need to be polished to a deep shine, I use a jewelers file to knock down the high spots and smooth the surfaces out.

that website is excellent too. I would read the whole thing before starting. I started working on the sear engagement area before realizing that you can shorten the sear for less creep

For my sear-polishing, I used a 1000 grit Mylar sheet. Cuts fast but not too fast and gives a pretty smooth surface for the application. Springs can be had from Brownells on the cheap.
