Hey there all!
Im new here and already asking advice.. The nerve eh?
Here is the scoop,
Im fairly new to the firearm world, lets say about two years or so.
Im looking to buy my first hunting rifle.
Im looking to spend in the neighbourhood of 2000-2500
This is something i want buy once, and right, the first time.
I would like a bolt action and am looking at 7mm rem-mag preferably but possibly 30-06
Was leaning to a sako 85 but am concerned about supposed ejector problems..
the accumark rc looka great but then ive heard its not at nice as the sako for the same price.

Any help here? Am I missing a good choice?

Those are both very nice guns and no wrong choice. As for being worried about the ejector issue that another forum member recently had, I wouldn't be too worried. Buy your gun from a reputable dealer and you will have no problem, Make sure to check out a Cooper from Prophet River Firearms, a sponsor of this site. They also carry Sako and Weatherby and will stand behind their product with exceptional service better than you will receive from the big box stores. Call Clay and he will answer all your questions.

There is a quick comparison of those two rifles at this site:

They are both fine rifles. But, imho, if you do not choose the Sako, you will always regret it.

Sako all the way. Plenty of variety to choose from amongst the many Sako models and action lengths. Nice fit and finish. Easy to adjust the triggers. Excellent shooters.

Accumarks are typically good shooters, they look nice, but are heavy.

Back in 1997 when I was looking at buying my first new rifle, I was looking at Weatherby and then Sako. I went Sako...m75ss 300WM. I preferred the stock/fit/finish. To this day I still have this rifle along with a few more Sako m75 rifles.

As for Sako m85 issues, I believe its more of a scope mount issue...I could be wrong.

My pick.........SAKO !!

Weatherby makes a good rifle but they are heavy as all get out. Helps with the big kick from some of their cartridges, but not what you want if you've got to hump it five miles.

I wouldn't hesitate to look at used Sako's if I were you. Especially the AV or older. You see them come up on EE all the time and i think that the older AIII and AV deluxe are just plain old better in every way. Plus you will have lots of money left over for a kick ass scope.

You can always buy the Wby. Ultra-Lite in say the .257 Weatherby.
Cause we all know that "Nothing Shoots Flatter, Hits Harder or is More Accurate" than a Weatherby.
Of course there are limitations in that statement (read into it what you will).
But, seriously your wallet and how much you can comfortably carry all day long or that will sit beside you in your stand/blind
should be some of your determining factors in the choice of rifle.
Weatherby can be heavy, the Sako has at least one issue with certain scope and ring choices but either will do the job it is asked if you can do yours.
Got a hunt lined up for the new rig ?
Keep us apprised of your choice.
No worries Kennymo was kinda playing devils advocate was all, but to the OP given your two choices I would suggest the Sako because you where comparing that and the Accumark and not the Ultralite that I was pushing.
Kennymo, I shoot the Vanguard in.257 and keep thinking of the Ultralite.

To clarify, I have a 257 Weatherby and it is my go to deer rifle right now. I'm not trying to dissuade the OP from going in that direction as I love mine, I'm just saying that weight might be something to consider depending on your hunting methods.
*Rob - if you like your Vanguard, the Backcountry model looks enticing too. Not quite as lightweight as the Ultra but it looks to have a bit more barrel on it!

Cooper is more expensive option isn't it? If you are eager to up the price options are limitless, but usually people don't like that.
