Berger bullet Problem!!!!

Hey Guys

I was loading some 230 Gr Berger Hybrid bullets last night wasnt really looking at each bullet when running them through my press. I took the bullet off my press to meausre the COAL and noticed this mark on the side of Tip Ive been loading for several years with my RCBS Rock Chucker and never seen anything like this so I'm sure it was packaged like this whats your thoughts.

You're right, it was packaged that way - it has nothing to do with your dies. These things happen in manufacturing (there must have been a problem with either the copper cup or the punch/die. I have one of these (7mm) sitting on my bench too......ONE.....out of many hundred. I should really just load the damn thing - they're a lot more fun when they fly really fast, than they are just sitting there:rolleyes:

Hopefully the rest of the lot that got through inspection is okay for you.

As mentioned, it came out of the factory like that. Given the cost of 'em, I'd be inclined to contact Berger. Let 'em know about if nothing else. They might do something nice for you.
 
So I emailed berger about 1 minute before i posted this thread, Berger has gotten back to me already and will be shipping a new box of bullet tips. I think that service is pretty good!!!
 
Okay, I'm sorry for being a #### (as I know someone clarified for you in a different thread) but head space is the dimension between the bolt face and a location on the shoulder of a bottle neck cartridge chamber. The measurement you are giving sounds like it's overall length (dimension from base of cartridge to tip of bullet - dunno, I'm unfamiliar with the Ultra Mag dims.). This is different yet from a measurement you will get using a bullet comparator, which measures from the cartridge base to the ogive (or close to) on the bullet.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.:rolleyes: To me, it looks like the ogive is inside the neck of the case = a lot of bullet inside = huge jump = conceivably poor accuracy & velocity. Just some observations for you to consider....
