Shorten PAL Approval Times

Update of my post from July 26th, updated Aug 19th, then updated today.

-Took and passed course May 25th/26th
-course report mailed by instructor Mon May 27th to Ontario CFO
-course report stamped June 6 by Ontario CFO, received back to me via mail June 14th
-RPal application signed and mailed (via Purolator) June 14th - had it ready to go and I waited for original copy of stamped course report to come back to go with the application.
-application delivered and signed for at CFC Miramichi on June 18th
-checked online on the RCMP CFC website on average every other day or two after I got the delivery receipt by email from Purolator. Only thing I saw was from my previous application renewal from 2009. Nothing new appeared online until the morning of July2nd
-starting July 2nd, the status on RCMP CFC site says received "June 24th". Old info from 2009 was replaced by this new message.
-called weekly since July 2nd and get the feedback, "application scanned and in process, but not ready to conduct interviews" - I do have an application number and reference that each time I call, as well as my existing NR-PAL number.
-references have each called in during the week of July 15th, quoted the application number I gave them and both got "not ready for interviews yet, call back in a couple of weeks"
-credit card charged July 15th for application fees
-decided to call in today, July 26th, on a Friday (from what I read, Fridays are a processing and printing day....) to shake things up a bit. Asked if they had everything they need, if there were any errors or omissions. The nice CFC clerk said she would review, and this time, the entire application was visible to her and she reviewed all 5 pages with me, confirmed the photo and test results. She even confirmed the credit card transaction was approved and applied to the account. I'm thinking, "wow this is progress!!" and was hoping I could do the interview, but, the reply was "still not ready for interviews yet, maybe another week".
-called in Aug 7th, clerk told me "we are just starting to process. Its been scanned, not ready for interviews." I verified with her that everything is complete and accurate and she confirmed that it is complete and they need nothing further from me at this time.
-called in Aug 13th, clerk said "not ready for interviews, she said to check online and when the wording changes from "in process" to "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress." you can call in for interviews.
-checked Aug 17th online, application status still says "your application has been received, and is in the initial processing phase (or something like that...)"
-checked today Aug 19, application status now says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress." Called in for interview, they said not ready yet.
-called Aug 21, still not ready for interviews
-called Aug 23rd, FINALLY, ready for interview. Conducted mine in the morning, gave file reference # and phone # to one of my references, he called in in the afternoon.
-Aug 26th (today), my second reference called in this morning at 9:30 EST, now the online status as of 11:00 EST says " Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the CFC"

So on day 63 from date of the CFC receiving my application June 24th, day 70 from the application being physically received by the CFC, day 92 from taking the firearms safety course, the licence has been issued. Lets see how the 2 week time guideline compares to the 45 day time guideline for processing the application!!

also, once my licence is in hand, my letter to my MP will be going out. Her office is near where I live, I will deliver in person! Shalimar will be proud!!

Hey you never know. Not like parliament is in session now and she will take it to Ottawa with her, but I just would feel more warm and fuzzy about launching a complaint after I had card in-hand.

My time mirrors yours exactly (minus the weekly calls. I called in a few times only). I did my interview and references on the 26th also. Fingers crossed. My local store has the rifle I've been eyeing in stock!

ya I know the feeling I got my eyes on 2 handguns and they got a couple in stock lol

My references and I all completed our interviews last week, but the site is still saying my application is in initial processing. Aren't interviews usually the final stage?

After interviews it should change to 'completed initial processing'. From there it goes to Provincial CFO which is the final stage (kind of)

Many shops will take a deposit on such pending the release of your rpal etc. Try asking :)

Ya I know I did ask the guy ar the gun store but that's the thing I want to hold the guns and see if i like them I do know the one I like 100percent but the other one I want to have it in my hands so I can get the feel for the gun , I should get my PAL in the mail at any time now they issued my licence last Wednesday

And they won't let you do that now??

Lots of stores will not let you handle the firearms unless you produce a PAL. Don't think that is based on anything other than a store policy.

I've never had one yet ever even ask me for my rpal for anything.. nor for my wife lol

they know it's not loaded and it's all under supervision.. so that sort of store policy is dumb IMO... tell them such and say you will simply take your business elsewhere.

Checked the Status of My app online today after work and now reads:

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number

This was an upgrade from Pal to Rpal anyone know if the number stays the same?
