Im looking into buying a nice 17 HMR bolt action. Something with a nice walnut stock, heavy barrel and high quality all the way around. Ive been tempted by.....

the Sako Quad Hunter pro $1330

the Anschutz 1727f until i saw the price $3500

the Anschutz 1517 d $1289

Id be interested in a sako quad varmint but they seem to be hard to find in Canada. Any Advice would be much appreciated

stick with the sako, if you don't buy it buy the Anschutz Fortner, 6 month wait and selling as fast as they can make them for a reason. I just saw a new sako quad sell for 1000 tax in, you can likely buy that 1727f for around $3k taxes in. it doesn't shoot any better than the sako, but does look nicer and the action although loud is slicker than grease.

the coopers are very nice and fill the gap between the sako and Annie. they don't shoot better than the sako, but they sure do look nicer, feel great and hold their value. lots of good choices to be sure.

Thanks dizzy, i saw the coopers as well. i do like the idea that i can change barrels with the sako.

The sako is a shooter, I own one, as do several shooting buddies. we compete shooting nickle sized targets at 200M. once you find the right ammo you won't find a better shooting 17 for the money.

I literally drool over the Coopers on Prophet River's site every day. It's torture! :) I've never tried a Sako, but am interested in doing so.

I recently bought a savage .17hmr and i must say, for the money, it does the job - well. for $500 you do get a lot. and with the money you save you can get a better set of optics.

I'm just getting into thr 17HMR game, and went with the CZ 455 varmint.
I handled a 455 American in our local shop, and for >$500 it seems like a great value. Plus, that leaves me $$$ for a decent scope and my first lot of .17HMR ammo, which is expensive!
Be sure to report back with what you go with OP.

Happy shopping!

for the money savage is the best bang for the buck, what they are not, is as tough as a sako or annie, as pretty as a sako or annie, as smooth as a sako or annie. Like wrenches, you can buy cheapo fuller or snap-on, they both get the job done, just one is so much nicer to work with. The OP is looking for a high-end rifle, and savage is not that rifle.

Just bought a 17HMR Left hand Savage last week, first time at the range consistently hitting loonie sized targets at 100 yds,( obviously scoped ) I'm happy with it for 400.00, will make a great rabbit gun
Sure you can have a Cooper or Anschutz, but you can also have a PGW Timberwolf instead of a Remmie 700.
