Ruger 10/22 sugestions???? (Yes read tips and tricks already)

Holy doodle..... Great I bought a brand new fixer up'er with millions of parts available.......Damn tinkering club ..... I hate winter...LOL

Thanks all for advice it cuts through a bunch of crap to read and try to break the code on what is right or not. :(
After much info and PM's from various very kind people I will change up the buffer with the Tuffer buffer (Ordered a 3 pack from Ebay)/Will take out the bolt release and get dremel out for a quick grind/polish :)
as for trigger job....seeing I have not even fired this thing I am going to hold off on that for winter, possible brimstone trigger job time will be over winter that way I am not in a rush to get trigger group back so fast and can wait.
As for extractor if I can try it and see how it functions, if I have issues out it goes RFN if not it can stay till it breaks or ticks me off.

Trust me I do but what happens when I buy Canadian who ordered parts or parts are made in US?? Technically I am supporting the US....
I will hold off on using Brownells only thanks to the whole export of parts crap that I have no idea how that works.

Flawless and did I mention that stupid release needs to go.... I just left the bolt closed I hate fumbling with release.
Funny thing about rifle it is actually pretty bang on target right out of box....
Now to accessorize .... Hehehheheheheheeeee
 
I have had a 10-22 since the early 70's and haven't seen a need for the bolt relase mod. but i don't see a need to use it. Mine is all original with countless rounds thtough it and the only jam i ever had was mistakenly loading some longs in it. Have fun with your new ruger, it;s a great little gun.
 
i ran my original one for 28 years before i started to mod it.
but i do enjoy the bolt release mod.
ive put it on all 4 of my 10/22's now.

probably like it because it reminds me of my AR's

Ayup. Ditched the release about 30 years back, and somehow, my life has not been in any way affected negatively by not having it there.

One of these days I will probably get around to installing the buffer I bought for it. Mine is otherwise pretty much bone stock, chewed up and ugly from LOTS of use.

Not much point in mucking with something that works.

If anything, I would suggest picking up a spare extractor to have one on hand as insurance if your gives grief, then go like heck and have fun with it, mod when you feel like it, fix what breaks, if anything does.

Don't forget to radius the bolt. Belt sander clamped upside down to table worked for me.
Be careful or one day you will look down at your unrecognizable 10/22, which will make you smile. Until you add up all the money you've spent on it.
At that point you may start to question your logic. Tons of stuff on the internets. Try Rimfire Central. Guard your wallet.

Anyone have any luck with the 50 round drum mag for Ruger 10/22 ???

I bought a Mitchell Drum/Teardrop type mag for mine and it was a PITA. I still have it, it's not for sale, but I have not bothered with it for some time. It needed three hands to load, and gawd help ya if you lost control of the winding key before you got the first couple rounds in place. Thing barked my knuckles a couple times!

I bought a couple Ramline plastic lipped mags. They work pretty well. I never bothered with the steel lips ones, as, by the time they really came on the scene, I was pretty much done dicking about with burning large piles of ammo just to make noise.
I think they are a pretty good product though. Buy a loader tool if you go that way.

Somewhere about my stuff I have 4 or more stock 10 round mags that I use. I fill a pocket full of bulk ammo, throw a mag on the rifle, a couple more full ones on top of the ammo in the pocket, and it gopher patch fun time! Shoot a bit, stuff a full mag on the rifle, then top off the one that came off while figuring out which one gets it next.

Somewhere in my computer I have some pics of a nicely one drum mag that looked like a one-of project, that used a rotary mag as the top section. Pretty sure it's a pure custom, and unaffordable to build to sell, but it looked like a neat hobby project for a fella that had a CNC mill to play with.

Never tried a drum like the Black Dog unit. Never got past the want vs. price point equation.
Didn't want it bad enough to spend that much on one.

I like my stock mags, but still dig out the Ramline ones once in a while. Should dig out the Mitchell and see if it still works.

Too bad the fella in Edmonton never got anywhere with the one he was working on.
