Ammo cans: Where are they made? User feedback?

I'm in the market for ammo cans for ammo storage. ;) shocking right :)

I like that you offer new and unmarked cans.

Are these US Military cans? Made in the US?

I know it's simply an ammo can but I'm curious how they compare to genuine military cans.

I'm sure I'm over thinking this. lol

Any feedback would be great :)

I have 3 of them that came full of ammo from them and they are top quality mil cans....Just no mil markings.

I have 12 of the M2A1 50cal cans and 12 of the M19A1 30cal cans. I recently picked up two of the 120mm smoke cans. I don't know the origin of where they were made, but can comment on them at least. My guess would be that they aren't made in the US, more like China or Pakistan or something.

The cans aren't quite as thick and heavy as standard mil cans. BUT they are more than enough for range use and storage. I throw in an aluminum oxygen absorber off of ama zon for about $10 each for the longer term storage. The seals work great - I tested with plumber smoke inside the can, which is basically putting a smoke bomb off inside the can. They seal quite well with no leaks. The seals look thick enough for long term storage, you can put vaseline or something on the seal if you really wanted to, but I didn't.

As I said, the metal is slightly thinner than what's found in the military, and the paint does come off a lot easier. Just having two beside each other in the trunk tends to scratch off some each trip. I personally don't care about this, as they are meant to haul ammo to the range and store them in my house for long term. I'll grab a can of spray paint if metal looks exposed and krylon them up.

The 30 cal can holds 1000 rounds of 9mm, and is about all the weight I want to carry on one arm. The 50 cal holds 1800 rounds of 9mm (with room at top) or 225 2 3/4" 12GA standard velocity or 250 2 5/8" 12ga Low recoil.

Now the 120mm smoke cans I received were CF or US surplus with the UN 0006 markings on them. Cans are great, and came with the two 120mm cardboard tubes. They are thick wall mil spec standard with some scratches and paint.. but the interior is flawless and the seals look brand new. The paint is neat and original from manufacturer, not spray paint from some grunt in his barracks.

I picked up 4 of the 50 cal cans (M2A1) from CanadaAmmo and they are exactly as advertized - Brand new, tight fit, unmarked.

I bought them expressly for 5.56 bulk ammo - they work great. Their capacity depends on how you pack your ammo in them - lose or boxed (2 or 3 stripper clip inserts).

If anyone wants a line of where to get the 5.56 stripper clips, Bandoliers, and inserts (the inserts are those open ended boxes you see in the 420 rd Federal Lake City cans) - just PM me.

I'm pretty sure the cans at Milarm in Edmonton had a sticker with some the name/address of some other Edmonton business. I'll see if mine has that sticker, but it could easily have been the importer/courier and not the manufacturer.

I got most of mine from buying ammo, but lots of places have them individually if they don't carry your type of ammo. Almost any Princess Auto has a good selection of cans.

Your over thinkin it, just buy em, most of mine i got from princess auto and i beat the crap out of em, from tools in the truck to tow chains/straps and ammo just make sure the seal is in decent shape and your good to go.

If they are made in China, why the heck do they cost $30.00 at Princess Auto, it doesn't make sense for a simple tin box.

Reality of the market.

if you look on alibaba, you will find a base bulk price around $8 or $9 for the minimum order of 500 unit, add to this freight cost, import duties, and distributor margin, and you'll get the retail price you get, in bulk (12) at CanAm, it is around $16 per can.

I got 3 of the 50 cal ammo cans and a smaller 5.56 can in excellent condition from an Army Surplus Store in Toronto. The markings were spray-painted black as it was supposedly SOP for any military surplus sold to civilians. They were well made and was told by the vendor that they were Canadian made. I saw some bigger cans from Princess Auto, conditions varies from batches.
