Can anything be reasonably done at home to fix a light strike issue with this gun? I have a pile of 60's and they all shoot perfectly, but the 600 is only hitting hard enough to shoot every 3rd round or so, and even on those you have to really look to see where the pin struck. I'm no gunsmith, but I can disasemble and clean no problem, but doing that didn;t fix anything.

I won't pay to have it looked at, the gun is not worth that kind of attention. But it is accurate when it shoots - if there is a way to remedy this at home, I'll do it.

IMO without looking at the gun, it is either a broken or weakened spring. If you have other model 600s, try swapping the springs to confirm the diagnosis.

Have you tried different ammo?

I have a Cooey 82 that seemed to be doing the same thing. I was getting one-in-five firing with Winchester T22 and Super Speed HP rounds. Performance improved with Winchester M22 rounds, but not by much.

The rifle ended up working flawlessly with CCI Standard Velocity Round Nose Target and CCI Stinger. I suspect that the CCI rounds -- Stinger in particular -- may have thinner or softer cases. I did not think to keep some empties to measure the thickness of the case walls.

I think the other posters here are right about spring or firing pin problems, though -- none of my other Cooeys have light strike problems. Cocking the 82 feels lighter than on other models, so I think in my case it's the spring.

I'm not entirely sure how to take apart the bolt to get at the spring and firing pin. A quick Google found this --

-- but I've not tried it.

Good luck if you decide to take apart your bolt. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks -- mdf

With the bolt handle turned down, ready to fire, can you push on the back of the bolt handle and is there any noticeable forward movement? May be a headspace issue.
Is the firing pin flat faced or is there a bevelled face on it?
