Hey,

I'm a new hunter; did the course last fall, but never got out.

I have now moved from Hamilton area to Petawawa as I am now a member of the military.

I am 30+ years old and mature. I have my PAL and own the needed firearms.

I'm looking for someone to show me the area and possibly get me out for some deer, etc this fall.

Plenty of good crown land to hunt on up there Mike, We have a camp just across the river from the firing range of the base... Thousands of acres worth of crown land that side of the river that's prime for bear, deer and moose (if you get drawn for a tag) :p

You will find most people aren't too accepting to strangers in their hunting areas... most people would prefer less people in their zone.

I think your best bet would be talk to some guys at your units, find out who hunts and see if they will take you along for a trip...
 
Yea thats a COA i'm investigating as well Shep. Just thought I would come at this from all angles.

I get the protecting the prime spots you have found. But then don't complain when the shooting sports are shrinking, and hunting is not as big a past time as it used to be :)

I would get out there on my own - I really have no issues with that....im more worried about me downing an animal and completely F'n up the field dressing as I'm sure it isnt exactly an exact step by step from the hunter's guide...lol

I'll keep poking around my units.
 
Im willing to bring you out for a walk grouse hunting out in alice on crown land :), always good to get someone new into the sport (ive only been doing it 3 years, but have lived in pembroke for 17)
 
Hey - reviving my old thread.

My buddy and I went out Sat and today for grouse. We just went out barron canyon rd and walked some of the trails. Nothing.... didnt see or flush 1 bird.

Anyone have any good areas for grouse/rabbit in the area?
