What Rifle Are You Using for the 2013 Hunting Season

This year Ill be taking the new cooper 52 35 whelen out for bear, Moose isnt in the plans this year :(
for deer it will be the TC encore 50cal for muzzleloader in saskatchewan
and for rifle season here in the 204 it will be either the cooper 52 custom classic 280rem or model 54 jackson hunter in 308
for coyotes this winter it will be the rem 700 in 223

I can never decide until the morning of the hunting day. It's a tough call. If I had to guess in advance, I'd say it will likely be my Browning Micro Medallion in 7mm-08. It is just so very dead on the money. Unless it's a rain day, then it would be my Sako A7 in 7mm-08. And if I feel like a lever, it will be a BLR in a short action cal maybe the 257 Roberts. Or maybe a Ruger No.1, maybe the AB in 7x57. I doubt if my almost one year old brand new in the box left hand X-bolt in 7mm-08 will be Leupy scoped and sited in and ready for this season. I have the bases for it, but still need super low rings. One of my son's took the last set that I had in stock and has not replaced them yet!

You moved to AB Bellero? If you want to go put all those pretty custom calls to use and whack some yotes you should give me a PM come winter. I work out of Lloyd so I'm not too distant from Wainwright.

If either of you want to wack some Yotes both of u pm me I live in Lloyd lol

Last year was good. 3 deer, 1/2 an elk and a HUGE cow moose. There is no requirement to hunt this year. That being said, wife still wants a deer for sausage, so I will take her out for that. I also have agreed to take 3 new hunters out this year and our elk hunt is still on. So, while not actually hunting, I will be taking out a rifle each time if for no other reason than back up for new shooters.
Most of the time it will probably be my Rem799 in x39mm. For the elk (we have 4 hunters, so two elk will be fine), I will be using my trusty 100ATR in '06, backed up by the 100ATR in .308. Neither have failed me. I acquired several rifles this past year, a Savage 340 in .30-30, a Ruger M77 in .30-06, and a Whitworth Arms (not familiar with the company and I just got it given to me) in .308. Along with 2 SKSs. Unfortunately, none of these have seen any ammo besides proof firing. Two need new recoil pads to give me better length of pull and those will get worked on this winter.

Confirmed my old Ruger M77 at 300m yesterday, a nice 3 inch group about a hand span down from POA (180gr 308).

Ready for bear in 10 days!

44 Ruger Carbine in the thick stuff, Cooper 308 Medium Stuff, Pre 64 Win 7mmRem Mag for the Fields.I know, they didn't make a 7mm in a pre64 70, It was a 243 until I lost a BIG buck because of it. Jim

Planning on taking out my PSE XForce Vendetta XS for the early bow seasons for moose and deer. After that it'll be a toss up between the Model 700 Sendero SF II in 300 WM and the old Marlin 30-30. The Weatherby Vanguard in 22-250 might make an appearance during deer season depending if I can find some heavier bullets, but it always comes along for the ride for wolves/coyotes.

Started the year with my new .338 build...seems to work ok

Come deer season I'll, probably switch up to my new .275 Rigby :)

Best you get yer arse in gear as it is not an overnight deal.
I did one years ago and Winchester wanted the old firing pin and serial number before they sent me
a new one.
It took a bit of time, not an overnight delay.
Good luck and let us know how long it took you.
Things may have changed?????????
For those of you who were curious about the firing pin recall for my Winchester 100 here's an update. I contacted them at 1-800-852-5734 and mailed them my old firing pin and serial number. They mailed out a replacement firing pin to my P.O. Box in the U.S.A. and then mailed a $30.00 cheque to my address in Canada. I don't know if they would mail the firing pin to Canada or not as I gave them the option of mailing it to the U.S.A. So I just have to put the new firing pin in and the model 100 will be back in business.

Started the season in Australia with a custom Corlane .300 RUM Sako 75, Gaillard, McMillan, Mark 4 combo and a relatively stock Rem 700 LSS in 30-06 with only bedding and a Shilen trigger. The way that turned out I could retire both of them tomorrow and still say they had an honest lifetime's worth of game shooting.

In the next few weeks I'll be taking a M70 .458 to Mozambique for buffalo and hippo, plus a Weatherby Ultra lightweight that has been rebarrelled to .300 Win and isn't all that lightweight anymore. That one might see some duty on croc, or incidental plains game.

Closer to home I have a new Cooper western Classic in 7 STW to take out, and might find some opportunity too carry any one of several new rifles. Things like a Kimber select grade in 7 Rem, or a matched set of Weatherby Lazerguards in .300 and .257.

:needPics:Would like to see the Cooper Western Classic. SVP

OK, was going to do a thread on it someday with better pictures. I haven't shot it past 650 yards yet, but it will do what it has to.

So far I have an uneasy feeling that I like the Kimber better and for a fraction of the price.

Dogleg, Oh ya very nice. Enjoy it this autumn, I would! There is a resemblance between the Cooper and Kimber, probably because both owners work/worked at Kimber. If only Kimber made a heavier barrel I would seriously consider purchasing another, not just for accuracy reasons, but to hold steady without muzzle jump.

Well since I started this thread I added on to this years hunting rifle. I installed a forend stud to hold my bipod and then a leather butt cover that holds two cartridges and a matching sling. This is my first experience with a Ruger #1, in fact any Ruger and this 300 H&H is one accurate puppy. Ruger has my vote!!! Now to field test it.
