first day of goose season in southern ontario

had some land across the street in the country like they always do, first time ive seen em land that close to the road, about a dozen and a half and about a few randoms later

We got 20 this morning but had to work for them as a lot of the flocks were acting like late-season birds. Really wary for this time of year. Usually they flop right into our spread early season, but not today. Kinda strange.

What are you guys using on Goose, 10 guage ??

Funny you should ask. I'm trying a 10 gauge this year for the first time but not out of necessity. Everybody else is shooting 12's, a couple guys have guns that only chamber 2 3/4" shells and I have done just fine in the past hunting geese with a 20 gauge. The key is getting them inside of 40 yards with good dekes, good calling and good concealment.

I'm going this week or next week end shoot shoot woot woot. Can't wait for deer season as I'm a virgin, going with a taxidermist so at least I won't be mucking nothing up, 30 years hunting experience..... Some is sure to rub off right? if I get a trophy buck ill get it stuffed by one of the best true to life taxidermy in the hat! Hoping to get my calls down pat this year get my limits, not have to buy any store crap. Can't wait everyone have fun!

My friend and I were lucky enough to have four groups come low and take a look-see at our spread. All the action took place during the first daylight hour and then everything came to a standstill. Great day overall, brought home eight geese!

First-ever time I used my DIY Hatcam featuring a Sony waterproof camera, not great footage but not that bad either. Already tweaked it a bit since the angle was originally terrible, focused mainly on the barrel and not high to the target. Now with Hatcam vers. 2.0 I hope to get some better vids to share.

Click here for a sample of some of the action yesterday.

That's pretty much how it goes. Once the geese are done moving from where they have roosted for the night and landed where they are going to feed for the day, it's basically over until the evening. If there are several groups of hunters working various fields in close proximity you might keep them in the air a little longer, but sooner or later they find a nice place to chow down for the day.
