Mr Wolverine

CGN Regular

I am looking for a winter project, I would like to find a M-29C Weasel for restoration. The C is the amphibious version, I would consider a unit in any condition. Would be gratefull for any leads.

I was in Maine a few weeks ago and seen a auto trader type magazine at the gas station and there was a section with military vehicles. It caught my eye as there was a Ferrit Scout Car in there which I drove in Cyprus on a U.N. tour in 89.I think it was called Uncle Mikes Trader or something like that.Lots of military vehicles for sale tho.

Ferret Scout Car in Maine:

This could have been the vehicle you served on. Most Canadian Army Ferrets were sold to US buyers as surplus. I used to own 54-82598 ex- Combat Arms School, ex-LdSH (it in now in Alberta).

Here are UNFICYP Ferrets with present locations where known. All of their CAR/CFR numbers start 54-82...

500 CFB Petawawa? Fake CAR/CFR was painted on 52 011. Could not confirm as it had just been repainted.

I wrote a small book "The Ferret Scout Car in Canadian Service" (Service Publications). I am trying to track down EVERY Ferret that was used by Canada. Any leads would be appreciated.

There are several ex-UNFICYP Ferrets surviving. If you can remember the last three digits of your Ferret's CAR/CFR I may be able to tell you where it is now. If you do not have photos of it, I may.

The date 1989 is a puzzle as Canada sold off the bulk of our (and last of our) Ferrets in 1980-1981.

Yes, puzzling. In 1982 the Cdn contingent used the M113 (4 at Camp Maple Leaf and another 4 at Ledra Palace) The recce troop used the Lynx. The Brits still used the ferret with a turret though.
There was also two Grizzlies with a very odd pink paint job that were at Blue Beret Camp for some kind of trials.
Maybe surly got to drive one of the Brit cars, as the Cdn ones were long gone by then.

Hey John, I couldn't find you a weasel but Wolverine Guy suggested this might work better for you on your next duck hunting expedition
