Does putting SKS into aftermarket stock change status?

Let's say a Tapco SKS Intrafuse stock. Assuming the same mag is used is the firearm still NON-Restricted?

Cheers

Thanks, guys. I came upon a really good deal for two SKS's. Love the wood look and will keep one fully original but was thinking of using the second as something to have a little fun building around. I figured I'd better check before hand because I don't have an rPAL... yet.

I Tapco'd my SKS a couple of weeks ago. 5min after I assembled it, a call came in from the PWEU ordering me to dispose of that weapon of mass destruction. I told them "Come and get it, #####es!" and things went downhill fast from there.. Deuxième Force opérationnelle interarmées had to be involved, we all went full retard, and I had to call in some favors from the prime minister. The situation was diffused over a round of bong hits. Since then, we've reached a compromise solution - painted it pink to reduce the danger factor.

LOL... Canadiana at it's finest. ;)

How are you liking the Tapco system? I have read they are very front heavy and take some getting use to. Does it feel as solid as the wood?

Not as solid as the wood but A LOT more comfortable to shoot, especially since I got a dealextreme "Magpul" triangular foregrip mounted. You can adjust the stock to a normal human-sized LOP, which is the main advantage. Being able to mount a foregrip is a bonus and I might even experiment with a vertical one that also has a spring-loaded "bipod" ($10 shipped from dx lol). My offhand results are amazing. Initially people can't believe it's an SKS with irons and Barnaul ammo (can't shoot steel core at the range, the Fudds don't like when the proletariat has guns and actually shoots them, so they went full Liberal on us), especially considering the shooter. Did a couple of extras to it, though...

1) Trigger went from 14.5lbs to a touch over 5lbs (polished the rails/sear, replaced the springs), crisp, clean break
2) Crowned the barrel (valve lapping compound and a brass bolt)
3) Tech sight FTW, get'em from Dave while he still has'em

The only time a stock will give you grief is if it's a bullpup or as mentioned reduces the OAL to under 26".
"...the Fudds don't like..." That being an extremely derogatory term. Steel core ammo isn't allowed on ranges because too many rectal orifi shot up range equipment with it. Usually by emptying their mags as fast as possible causing the shots to go everywhere but into the target.

So you are saying that we should ban the equipment because of what a few yahoos do with the equipment? How Liberal of you. Especially in a club with video surveillance and access card logs where it's easy to make the perpetrators financially responsible for the damage they cause.

Unfortunately Sunray is right. Steel core ammo is typical AP construction and will penetrate like a mofo. Gongs that wouldn't be bothered by SP or even copper jacket/lead core ammo get turned into swiss cheese. The other things they do is burst into a shower of sparks. The problem is obvious in the dry season. Add in dumb idiots spraying like mall ninjas and now the gongs are safe but the chains and supports are not. The ammo does a lot of damage that adds to the clubs workload. They are the ones who have to clean up after those select few and they are the ones who have to build new gongs. The fires they can cause are the nail in the coffin. I don't like it either but that's why I buy nonrestricted rifles. That way I'm not restricted to somebody else's rules just Federal and Provincial laws.

The extra cost to the backstop coming from steel core ammo was verified to be a MAXIMUM of $30,000 every 15 years or $2000 a year, assuming that without steel core, the backstop wouldn't require maintenance ever. Annual dues from steel core users were to the tune of $30,000 based on the MOST conservative estimate of the numbers, so 14 years would have been gravy. Adding $20 to the dues for a steel core endorsement sticker would have been another solution, acceptable to everyone and it would have even brought a few bucks' extra revenue to the club. Certain interests would have been crying about the raging infernos caused by the sparks from steel core ammo, had there ever been one in the history of the club.

The back stops at our Range in Blackie we were fine until 44 mag revolvers became popular and then they got all busted up. We had to make a new back stop for bigger guns is all. For the steel targets at Standard we had to go limit mag rifles due to holes.

The backstop at our club is rated for all calibers. Only .50BMG was prohibited because it's an indoor range and the concussion can be a bit much. Steel core ammo did cause long-term peening of the backstop. First backstop overhaul in 15 years was done as a preventative measure during other major range renovations and it cost $30,000. The club has about 1700 members and by most conservative estimates, 10% shoot steel core (haven't met too many people on the line that don't own an SKS lol). A $20 endorsement fee for steel core shooters would have been a civilized solution. A clique in the BoD wasn't interested in finding one. They waited until several pro-steel core directors were absent at a meeting and rushed the vote, banning steel core from one day to another. The softer directors who didn't care either way just went along to get along - good old "it doesn't affect me so I don't care" attitude.
