Looking to get into precision shooting thinking of starting with a .223.
So whats the best .223 out of the box and why?
Looking for any info. I almost bought a .204 but my local gun shop recommended against due to ammo issues.

I have owned Savage, Remington 700, and Tikka's all in 223. Out of the box they all shot well but the 2 Tikka's I bought were a bit better for accuracy but if your one to get a smith to tune er up then the 700 will shine the most after the effort. Today I have only the T3. Action like glass, accurate, low bolt throw angle.

Since factory rifle can be inconsistent in their accuracy I'd say pick the one with the stock that best fits you and has the features you want. I've owned several Savage's, a Remington, and a Tikka. My most accurate rifle was a Tikka Varmint and the worst was a Remington 700 SPS Tactical. All were capable of regularly shooting 3/4 MOA or better with handloads.

I had an Anschutz 1770 that outshot every 223 In ÀThe neighbourhood. It was a zinger and not a high dollar one either. I'd buy another in a heart beat. For the money tikka tac is very hard to beat

I have a Wby Vanguard Sub-MOA Varmint in 223 and I love it... I have a crappy scope on it and i can get 5 rd groups in a 1 inch square at 100 yards... And it's not the new series 2 one. It has a 1-12 twist and love hornady 55gr's! I'd buy another hands down!

I am VERY happy with how my savage LRPV. Performs . I wanted a 223 , but didn't want to wait for another custome build so got myself one . The stock leaves ALOT to be desired for myself , but the accuracy is outstanding . And I'm talking well under 1/2 MOA. Drop it into a stock that fits me better and I wouldn't hesitate to say it will hold its own against any of my customs

The FNH from Hernstal, are sleepers, i own one in 223 and one in 300 WSM and out of the box those 2 given me .5-.7 with factory ammo... JP.

"...Best Precision .223 out of the box?..." What's your budget like?
"...Remington 700 SPS..." Mediocre accuracy is fairly typical of entry lever rifles from any maker.

Another vote for Tikka. My T3 Sporter shot pretty well out of the box with factory ammo.

700 sps tactical is good if you wanna shoot heavier bullets with 1:9 twist. Mine shoots 70 gr berger vld match 3/4 moa. I'm hoping to shrink the groups a little more once the HS stock arrives in the mail. The hogue stock contacts the barrel on bags or a bipod.
