Chest Rigs and Mags for your Black Rifle

For competitions it is belt loadout only.
All mags down - pistol mags with the rounds pointing forward so I index off the front of the mag, but rifle mags are rounds facing rearward so I'm indexing off the rear of the mag. Sub gun with long stick mags the same as rifle mags.

and if you run'n'gun or just out in the forest... I suggest a radio pouch and a simple med kit!

So in terms of gear, since my legit post got deleted due to trolls...

I used to run an HSGI weesatch with all the fixings on it, plates and all. Then I sort of cut back on everything and divided it into 3 pieces since I wanted to go lighter and more versatile. It sort of dawned on me that for my uses, light and fast was better since I'm not a frontline soldier that requires 300+ rounds of ammunition to lay down suppressive fire for my squad. Its being used for courses, practice and really if ever there was a SHTF situation, I only need so much as to get in and out of situations asap, not stick around for a 4hr firefight.

What I went with was an OSOE stacked micro m4 rig with H-harness (The H-harness is a MUST for this thing). It is minimalist and lightweight and I absolutely love it.
For the armour I had a churchill style concealable carrier made up that I can chose to run under the chest rig or standalone as a concealed piece.
I also put together an HSGI battle belt with additonal mags/gear that can be added if I want to add more loadout and versatility to the OSOE micro.

So now its 3 pieces, all together or in various combinations depending on requirement.

Levethian, I live in grande cache. I go to grande prairie every two weeks or so. I can bring my belt rig with me and let you try it on, or if you come down to go to the range here, you can try it there.

It all depends on their role. If they're trying to keep it cool for CPD, they'll often do without the second line as they are expected to exfil with the principal, not actively engage X-rays.

Makes sense to be light to get the principal out, i wasn't there very long so my analysis is probably flawed.

This is a great thread as I am currently shopping for a setup. If only you could walk into a store and have a look/try on all this awesome gear. My biggest fear is getting something that does not fit right or I end up hating it.

I have the same issue, those rigs arent cheap and spending 270 bucks on something that doesnt fit or feel right is risky.

Currently testing the tag banshee with lv3 plates. So far I think it is the best bang for your buck PC out there. Plus it fits nicely as the shoulder straps are more apart versus other carriers, LBE.
I also run a OSOE AK/m4 Micro rig, also highly recommended

I don't think your analysis is flawed. You saw what you saw. Hell, they could have been UKSF doing a "vacation" job for all I know. Some jobs have seen two Operators walk in off the street in jeans and t-shirts to clear a warehouse using L9s in hostage rescue.

Get the H-harness for your OSOE micro.
It is the greatest thing ever, I always thought the cheap X straps that came stock with it was the weakest point.
With the H-harness you can literally get it on and off in seconds without having to worry about the X being straight or straps twisting etc etc...

The pictured second line is very similar to the one I have set up for discreet work. I have a few other bits of kit on there as well.

Some very interesting setups here.

In the last 10 years I used a couple different setups ranging including an old US ALICE LBV, an Arktis chestrig, swiss army issue webbing (which sucks), PLCE webbing and a few more.

This is what I've been using for the last two years

Deuxieme dotation bandolier. Made by the french company Kastinger. Added a pouch for empty magazines, a stripper clip guide and a pouch for a pistol mag.

It's actually just a way to carry additional ammunition like the US bandoliers, but for what I do it's better then a chestrig or a traditional webbing.
Normally I only need 4 magazines for my rifle anyway, if I need more I carry it in my backpack.

I got the h harness for it. Couple observations; the h harness makes it easy to don and doff, the x straps rub my thick neck, h harness doesn't, but the x straps are more low profile and is more comfortable when wearing a pack with the rig, h harness carries weight better.

Out of curiosity, what would you guys use if you were also backpacking? Still a vest/harness? This has been my dilemma. I ended up picking up a Tas Tiger belt w molle and its been pretty good, but somewhat limits crouched mobility.

Really like this. I'm looking for a smaller shoulder bag solution that allows me to configure with Helium Whisper or taco's. Lots of bags out there with velcro or buckle closures but they aren't fast enough for my needs. Most other molle bags are just too large for what i'm looking for. I want something i can just throw over my shoulder at the range, attach to my belt, and i'm good to go.

I ended up just going with the Costa Leg rig for range use - easy on and off, and since it's just range use, that and a couple of Tacos on a moduloader works fine. 4 rifle mags and 3 pistol mags plus one in each gun is plenty - I guess if I wanted more pistol stuff, my hard shell Raven pouch would work along with that set up. If you want a look at the leg rig let me know, I haven't had any issues with it, even running Vz mags. It's also low profile enough that the fudds spend more time complaining about the gun than the rig.

Running a BFG LMAC with some rifle tacos. Three on the front plus the cummerbund has some more ten-speed M4 pouches if needed. Also running a VTAC brokos belt with more tacos. Everything is comfortable in kneeling or prone.

You know whats funny though, is I've seen some british contractors out in Iraq with an AK and only 3 or 4 ak mags in their jacket pockets and a pistol tucked into their belt with 2 mags in their pant pockets without even a holster, no chest rigs. Those brits are funny.

Bags of sh1t come in all nationalities. Just because they are British doesn't mean they know what they are doing. The average Brit (and Canadian and American) soldier doesn't know much about handguns or kit setup.

I believe there are similar products out there that take MOLLE-pouches, that might be something for you.
