Just finished 2 great days of shooting in Petawawa under the close watch of Hungry , as usual he was a great source of info and a lot of laughs as well .
I made some new friends and saw some very nice equipment and some fantastic shooting .

Some very nice equipment congrats to those who put it on..

Thanks , it was held on CFB Petawawa (Yankee range 600 yards ) and was hosted by the Petawawa Gun Club .
I would like to have got a dollar value of the rifles in attendance .. and at the end of the day I saw a great 6 round grouping in a 3 in range marker !!
Everyone had a huge grin when the weekend came to a close , thanks again Hungry for another great clinic !!

No it was open to the general public as well . This was the 5th clinic Hungry has come up here and ran .... 2 x Precision , 2 x M-14 , 1 x CQB .
We will be hosting these again next year as well .

The weekend was great, I'd like to thank Hungry for putting on the clinic and the guys from Petawawa for hosting us. Shot lots, learned lots, met lots of great guys, sign me up for the next one.

The last two days two days were needless to say AWESOME. I would like to say thanks to hungry for putting on a great clinic and all the laughs, chalkriver (petawawa gun club) for all your work and BBQing (those tactical hotdogs were great), to the guy (sorry forgot his name) that ran tier 1 in the bunkers and the guy with no name, for all the advice and that spotting scope trick. To chalkrivers daughter for manning the post. Also to hungrys spotting scope. If you ever wanna leave him, you have a place right here. I know his jokes get old and you must be tired of listening to him blah blah blah in that megaphone. If you need to, give me a call. Anywho, all jokes aside. It was a great weekend, I learned a lot and a great experience, met a lot of great guys. Definitely in for next year and maybe a possible match? And that three inch, six shot group at 600 was absolutely disgusting. I mean I puked in my mouth a little. Seriously, spotting scope give me a call.

Here is the pic of the shooter who put the 6 rounds through the 3" marker at 600y.
The winds were variable and there was good communication between the shooter and the spotter calling the the wind.
Congratulations guys.

I also want to add that there was also another older gentleman shooting an old 6.5 sweede which I believe he said he paid $79.00 for who put 4 rounds in the 5 point circle at 500Y.

This is the view from the 300Y and 600Y shootons positions.

I had an awesome time. Great laughs, and I learned quite a bit all at the same time. Got to see some purdy rifles to boot! A1 bunch of dudes.
I'll try to post the few pics I took tomorrow

Thanks again to Hungry and Chalkriver for putting this on, hopefully I can make it out to the M14 clinic next month.
Cheers

I rolled in the door at 2316 hrs. It was a 5 plus hour drive and I'm safe and sound. I learned so much from you guys. Warmest thanks go to chalkriver for being a "model" pointman. If you ever want me to put on a clinic at yer gun club, bring on the BBQ and them deer sausage sticks for appetizers. :D

What did your learn?

* zeroing at 100m, shoot the patch, box test
* preparing your cheek piece with packing foam, bubble wrap, padded envelopes and tactical tan duct tape?
* how to survive the 300m agony snap dry run x 3
* what spotting scope will work for you at a decent price point ? What scopes did YOUR eyes prefer?
* How to save money on a spotting scope?
* What did you learn about all them anemometers like the various Kestrel Models? did they enhance yer wind calls?
* Many, many of you learned to read the wind and adapt for them changing conditions, your targets were great indicators of this learning
* many of you learned how to establish your 'waterline' elevation/setting and then record it
* notice that when the sun was out, some of you needed extra elevation ? "Lights high, sights high!" Another lesson learned
* What did you learn about your box AICS magazines?
* Did your rapid follow up match reveal some weaknesses in your loading and re-loading practices? ha ha ha ha
* did the wind changes mess you up between exposures of the 300m/yd agony snap?
* Know why we call it the 300yard "Agony Snap" now? ha ha ha ha ha :nest:

What else didja take away from this weekend? I hope your drive was safe and all of you arrived home in good time.

Bring on the conversation!

Cheers and keep helping the newbies!

Just wanted to thank everyone involved for a great shoot. Despite the fact that I felt like crap this morning by the end of the day I had managed to make some descent holes in the target at 600!
I will sew and patch my tactical tarp and try to make it to the next clinic.

Just rolled into the driveway safe and sound.

That was one hell of a shoot, I will be going over notes and photos to soak in all the info I learned this weekend for a while to come.

This was a stand-up group of shooters, all very professional, proficient, and friendly. I would be more than happy, and look forward to shoot with any/ all of you gentlemen in the future.

Learned a lot about my .338LM rig, and a lot I can do with both the rifle and the kit needed to support it (drag bags, spotting scopes, rifle specific tools, tac-bolt knobs, cheek risers, etc) this weekend, and was challenged many times with tricky, fast exposure, rapid follow-up targets.

I came out of this a more confident shooter, and with some excellent options for what kit I will need in the future to further improve myself and others.

I'll post up my pics and videos tomorrow, but THANK YOU for hosting this shoot Hungry, Chalkriver, and anybody else I missed!

I plan on making it out to many more in the future, and I will darn sure be forwarding my experience at this clinic to my friends in the gun world.

Kevin M.
