Hi all. Looking for some help.

I've got both versions of the M305: an 18.5" and a 22"

I recently purchased a Springfield Armory/Boyds walnut stock for the 22" (gorgeous) and an M14.ca Blackfeather RS for the 18.5" (also gorgeous).

BUT, I cannot for the life of me get the 18.5" to consistently pass the hammer follow test.
The trigger assembly for this rifle fits very tightly. Locking-up the trigger guard or releasing it is a #####. I've read the threads and filed down some material on the trigger assembly and on the Blackfeather stock (at the back of the cut-out for the trigger assembly "base" and the "wings". Worked on it all day.

The trigger assembly from the 22" WILL work on the 18.5" in the Blackfeather stock. Slides right in, slides right out (falls out, actually once unlocked if the rifle is turned right side up).

the trigger assembly from the 18.5" (the one I've filed some metal from) WILL NOT work on either the Boyd's walnut or the Blackfeather. It only appears to work on the original polymer stock the M305 came with. It is also a PIGto slide in and slide out, almost as if it's too wide for the opening)

Filing has allowed the trigger assembly from the 22" M305 to lock up easier in the Blackfeather, and it has INTERMITTENTLY passed the hammer follow test (will pass 10-12 times, then fail again. I'll file away more material, and it will pass again, only to begin failing again after I field stripped to clean and reassembled).

I'm reluctant to file any more metal off the trigger assembly or the stock for fear of ruining either/both.

Any suggestions? Take it to a gunsmith? try filing down more metal? buy another trigger assembly??

45APC, Tac Teacher? Any advice either of you can spare?

Swap the hammers in your trigger group and see which one fails.

This will rule out the hammer.
I've seen some awfully thick rear hammer hooks on some rifles and also bad angles on the "disconnect'
These combined can often make a trigger do what yours is doing.
I've also seen very short rear hammer hooks cause this problem

Something to check.

My BF locks up very tight, as it should.

I would have bought another norinco trigger group before I would have modified the BF.

I feel like I am going to live with a little regret regarding that one. at least the other trigger group still locks in tight with it.

hmmm...little nervous about trying this. may be a little over my skill/equipment level. I've got no work bench, etc.

EDIT: found a youtube vid on disassembly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTKfwdmMvVQ. will try when I get the chance tonight.

ARGH! Just screwed up.
Ended up taking the drift pins on the trigger guard out without the hammer spring tension released.

All the parts (trigger, safety, hammer, hammer cylinder, sear) are bound up on each other, and I can't figure out how to separate them.

Is this salvageable, or have I destroyed this trigger assembly???

Box her up and send her my way brother.
I'm just doin this to keep my hobby alive so just cover shipping

I did that very same thing at the first port alberni clinic in front of a crowd of guys LOL boy did I feel bright.

It is incredibly difficult to unbind, but I have an amorers trigger housing jig so no worries

OP..Arent you glad you bought a Norc.
Never met so many helpful guys as are on this forum.
Seems like some of the best hands on guys will work for free to help a guy out.
Nice one Thomas :)

To be honest I never much liked being a "paid" gunsmith hehehe
A lot of personal satisfaction comes from sharing what we know and seeing it help people. I think Hungry knows what I mean.
That said, I don't want to take away work from the businesses that cater to these rifles. BUT for serious head scratchin issues... I don't mind and actually welcome the challenge. For those who can't stand gettin somethin for free... Send some cash to canada's wounded warriors or your local foodbank and that would make me happy ;)

Thanks for you generous offer, Thomas.

Fortunately, Casey at Tactical Ordnance in Newmarket was able to squeeze me in and look at it for me.
He had it sorted out in a matter of minutes. THANKS, Casey!!

and yes, Lost: I am very grateful for this community of M305/M14/M1A enthusiasts!

My shorty had some fitting issues. I made a pistol grip stock from a full length stock for my shorty and found that the shorty stock has a deeper recess for the trigger housing feet. I don't know the technical name for them so I'm calling the trigger-most part the foot, and the flatter bits near the magazine latch the ears. For the original shorty stock, I removed stock material around the housing ears to make the shroty pass the test. For my custom stock, I spent several days trying to get the fitting right and the shorty still failed the test until I found out that the culprit was actually the trigger/hammer spring/disconnector pin had loosened itself out. After sufficient amounts of facepalming, I reassembled the trigger group and it works...for now. Just my experience with this matter.

Mine and 3 other shortys at one of Hungrys clinics had a deeper recess cut into the stock .
