I'm looking to eventually acquire a new scope for my Remington 7600 in .243. With so many selections out there, where do I start? I plan on hunting deer up around the Bruce penninsula and coyotes locally, so I don't expect to make shots much beyond 200 yards or so. I've been reading a bit about the Redfield revenges and some of the Nikons as well, is there any other scopes that are ringers I should be looking at? I don't really care to spend more than $300 for the scope, especially since I'll likely only be able to get out a couple weekends a year, so opinions on magnification, coatings and brands would be appreciated.

Check the EE, you can get a redfield or decent bushnell like a 3200 in 3-9 for $300 or under if you watch for a deal.

For that price you can get a good basic 3-9x from most of the major makers. (No Zeiss or Swarski stuff). Buy something brand name with warranty, I'm pretty happy with two Bushnell Elites I have in that range, any Leupold or Nikon stuff would be fine as well. Just avoid the cheap junk and you'll be happy.

Saw a great deal on elite 3-9x40 at a weekend sale for $219, factor in the $50 rebate on elites until the end of the year and you get a darn good scope for $170. Don't know what the regular price on them was.
