I traded for an 858 a little while ago knowing the bore was in pretty rough shape.

The chamber in particular has a pretty deep pit on the bottom and leaves a pretty visible dimple on brass when I shoot it (I've only run about 40 rounds of PMC through it).

It still shoots pretty well - with my eyes, I'm still getting about 2" at 50 yards using the iron sights. I didn't have any FTE's or FTF's in the 40 I've put through it, and while I don't like the dimpling on reloadable brass, really my intention for it was as a high volume, corrosive surplus shooter and/or a backup parts gun.

I had been thinking to try to hillbilly the pit in the chamber with a spot of JB Weld, but I'm wondering if I should even bother - if it shoots reliably and accurately (ish) what's the point in worrying? I'll just clean it regularly as I shoot it to make sure the pitting doesn't get worse.

It came with 9 mags and full fab furniture - so I was pretty happy with the trade - and with no new imports of the 858, I think it might be a pretty valued commodity, even to part out.

Thoughts?

JB Weld would probably let go from the heat. Talk to a HD mechanic specifically one who does a lot of engine work. They have compounds made just for such things that can survive journal bearings and cylinder walls. I've never worked with the products but I know they exist.
