Chest Rigs and Mags for your Black Rifle

Out of curiosity, what would you guys use if you were also backpacking? Still a vest/harness? This has been my dilemma. I ended up picking up a Tas Tiger belt w molle and its been pretty good, but somewhat limits crouched mobility.

one of the reason I picked up the HSP D3 rig is the swift clip system, as is it's still a pretty decent rig, if you need more you can clip it to a plate carrier that can carry more, and you can even find some backpacks that use the same clip system to carry even more... Seemed like a very good system to me.
To answer your post directly, for the bush I'd leave the plate carrier behind and clip the rig to a backpack.

Tactical Tailor Chestrig works really good with a backpack. Just like most other chestrigs. Traditional webbing didn't work so well for me when used together with a backpack. But it can still be done.

I ended up just going with the Costa Leg rig for range use - easy on and off, and since it's just range use, that and a couple of Tacos on a moduloader works fine. 4 rifle mags and 3 pistol mags plus one in each gun is plenty - I guess if I wanted more pistol stuff, my hard shell Raven pouch would work along with that set up. If you want a look at the leg rig let me know, I haven't had any issues with it, even running Vz mags. It's also low profile enough that the fudds spend more time complaining about the gun than the rig.

Thanks, maybe you could bring it to the course next month so i can have a look. :)

My tactical tailor MAV, with X-harness removed, works excellent with a ruck. I searched for a long time before I found a chest rig that worked with a pack. However, you have to wear it as it was meant to be worn, to many people wear the TT MAV's like they are webbing gear. It's a chest rig, it should be riding your rib cage/chest, not your waste. If you wear the MAV low, then it won't work with a pack, but wear it riding high and it works great. In my experience anyway.

I run a very very simple tt mav setup. 3x2 shingles bungees, a med, and a double pistol. On my belt is just my holster, mags, and other duty stuff... The chest rig rides high, and I've had no issues fighting with the sling. I just got new standalones so am looking for a pc that I can use that will enable me to keep using the tt mav... Instead of the ciras...

KevinB, it kind of looks like you've used your magazines to bludgeon a badger to death with. I like it.

Man, I'm not hard enough for this thread. All I gots is a vest from a brand no one seems to like. Farmboy, pouch me!

We need to create some sort of "Pimp my rig" show where someone travels around and turns us into hard operators.

Touche.

I carry 2 nokias, a blackberry, a tetra, and a motorola radio. I'm the most operating operator alive.

If this isn't trolling, then I don't know what it. Maybe it's about time some of the supposed mods enforce some rules. Who the hell let this fudd in here anyway?

For a Chest Rig I use a TT One Piece MAV with X-Harness, along with 4 double Rifle Taco's. For my belt I use a BFG SOC-C Modular Belt with Two Single Rifle Taco's, med kit, dump pouch, and pistol holster. This load out makes for a total of 10 magazines on my LBE, and 1 in the rifle for a total of 11 magazines.

If they were regular capacity magazines, I would probably change it to 4 single tacos on the chest, and 1 single taco on the belt. This load out makes for 5 magazines on the LBE and one in the rifle for a total of 6 magazines.

There are degree's of load out though, I would say a regular LEO with a rifle shouldn't normally need more than one or two magazines, where as a ERT officer may need 5-6 mags. Then there are the front line soldiers who want 10-12 mags, and then there are the high speed spec ops guys who run as few as 3-4 depending on mission outline. It's a toolbox, pick the tools for the job/mission.

I make a point of wearing some, if not all of my kit when the fudds are around because of the dirty looks they give. Of course if I'm at the range it's for a purpose, so I always have my kit with me when I'm shooting. Now that I hear SeaFury over hear thinks we look like the "Michigan Militia" I know we're doing something right ;) Is this guy for real?

Black rifle's and action/tactical shooting with those black rifle's and appropriate LBE is the new age. It's drawing lots of new people to the sport and building our community into something greater. I am so sick and tired of this BS attitude that suggests the range is for fudds only. If your not a fudd, and refuse to shoot like a fudd, then you'll draw negative attention to the club, your dangerous, if you use LBE on the range, then you must be bat shiit crazy, and definitely mentally unfit to own a firearm, so........ultimately, you shouldn't shoot here, because we we want to keep it for ourselves.

Well to all the fudds out there: Black Rifles, and Tactical shooting are the new age, it's whats going to keep out sport and the firearms community overall growing into something greater, and with more young people jumping on board everyday the more accepted our sport is becoming and the better it will be for all of us in the future. Especially in Canada. If you want to sit around the bench with a semi auto rifle and take one shot every 5 minutes through your single 5 round mag then that's fine by me, and if you want to run a service rifle match with mags falling out of your pocket, looking like a complete retarded moron, then that's fine by me too, but don't knock others for training in a practical, efficient, safe manor, with the kit necessary to make that training more effective and more fun, because it scares you. This new style of shooting is the future, either join the club and climb on board, or prepare to get left behind in the dust with your daddies single shot cooey.

You guys are not just training for matches. You are dressed from head to toe like you are mercenaries. I'm not a fud or a troll, just been at this long enough to know that the image is very important and if there is one place where there is a major division in attitude it's amongst firearms owners. Is training with some gear cool? Sure but keep it low profile. Where I shoot there are several ranges for paid members and a few for the general public. Guess what the general public shoots bottles, cans refrigerators, inflatable ### toys and makes a garbage dump out of the ranges available to them. The paid members who don't use those ranges clean up after the useless aholes. A large percentage of firearms owners are morons. Simple truth.

It was probably out of line to jump in the way I did but I remember Alan Rock and Kim Campbell. I remember wondering if we would have AR15's. Receiving a letter in the mail that you are no longer allowed to use your "kit" is not a happy thing. Wondering when the next batch of rules is coming is concerning when you have a significant investment in the sport. So I'm just saying the way the public perceives us, the firearms community is very important. Smile, be polite and act like someone intelligent because like it or not you are being judged.

Nope, rock out with your kock out boys! Nothing better than friendly, responsible shooters decked out in their gear to help show anti's (and closet fudds) that it's just equipment for our sport.

*EDIT*

Oh and to contribute to the thread.....;)

M14 might not be a true black rifle but I've got a setup to share none the less.
ElCheapo Condor chest rig w/ Tactical Tailor 7.62x51 double pouches x5 in combination with a Maxpedition sabercat versipack (say that 5x times fast!) around my waist.
Used this setup for a couple SR matches, it kind of sucked.

Pros: It was a cheap experiment, well kind of.

Condor is dirt cheap even at full price, and to be honest the quality is better than I thought it would be for the amount of use it gets. It puts the mags pretty high up on my chest, and is an issue shooting prone. Not able to rest 5/20 mag on the ground with 2x stacks of mags in, and just able to do it with 1x row of mags. The difference between prone off your elbows -vs- prone off the mag is enough to ditch the setup alone.

TT pouches were on sale for $10 each, and they are tough as nails. The pouch covers are tied back in the open position and tucked inside the Condors inner map pouch (?) but mag retention is not 100% for running or dropping prone, but mag changes are easy. Can pretty much slam an empty mag back in behind a full one as fast I can go into a drop pouch with them.

Maxpedition is also tough as nails, and has been my hunting day pack for 3x years. Only downside (other than the initial price) is you can't really load it up with ammo like I thought I would. Carried 250x rounds of 7.62x51 in an effort to have everything on me for the match, and it sucked. Way to heavy, until you are down to 100x or so rounds (never been so happy to get rid of 200x rounds!). So heavy and unstable that it was constantly shifting my balance in the kneeling position, and bounced around too much when running. Could be improved with suspenders I think, but never for that much ammo/weight.

Live and learn right? Good thing is I am a self proclaimed GEAR WHORE, so I like buying this stuff.

Next year I'm going to try SR again, this time with an AR and I'm building up a new setup, starting with a tactical tailor mav 2 piece with x harness.

Happy shooting!
