Our experience in the UK is that like any factory rifle they vary, and that's usually down to the barrel. Generally, they're good to excellent out of the box. A few are stunning and will match a good custom rifle. A few are poor, even complete 'dogs'. We've got a few early 6.5-284 F-Class models over here that shoot single-figure 1,000 yard groups and will break two-inches at 600 yards in our UK Benchrest Assoc. matches at Diggle. They were unbeatable in the 'Factory Class' for some years. The F/TR and Palma models conform to the profile too with most fine, and a minority outstanding / poor.
Unfortunately, Savage Arms gave the UK franchise to our main Remington and CZ importer and who has no interest in giving us the Precision Series rifles, and even less in procuring PTA actions while pricing these rifles out of reach, so most of our examples are now getting on a bit and have been rebarelled by now. We may have a new source for the Savage PTA action soon - I hope so as they make an excellent and inexpensive starting point for a decent custom rifle.
