Hi guys,

Looking at getting my first 1911 soon. I've been looking at the Ruger SR1911, Remington R1 and Iver Johnson Eagle. Any thoughts and experiences with any of these three? Or should I spend a bit more and get a used Colt?

Any advice is appreciated!

Brendan

If you are looking for something great right out of the box, then spend the extra and get an STI Trojan. If you are looking for something entry level that you are going to tinker and learn with, then the Norinco deal at CanadaAmmo is great - a 1911 with a forged steel frame and slide along with 1000 rounds of 45acp all for $499 and free shipping. I've got my STI 1911's to shoot, and a couple of the Norinco's to tinker with.

SiG Target and never look back. Most accurate 1911 I have ever shot, and decent price to boot.

+1 on the Trojan :)

Yeah Im looking for something that will shoot nicely with a good trigger right out of the box. How are the Series 80 Colt 1911's? How much would an STI Trojan run me?

Remington R1 Enhanced. Great shooter out of the box, silky smooth, breaks like glass, practically shoots itself, even with crap ammo.

How are the standard Remington R1's?

I can only speak to the R1 Enhanced, its a wonderful pistol and the reason for my CGN handle! It really makes you look good shooting as it stays on target, and is accurate right out of the box. The other thing to mention, is that the gun I got, never jams....even after firing 200 rounds of Norc 45! Add some Wilson Combat magazines and you will love this gun! My LGS got several and had them on sale cheap, so I broke down after years of 1911 Hate and bought one, after shooting the gun, I could recommend it fully without reservation.
