Just seen an add on Facebook for a c8 rifle and was just wondering how comman are these in civilian hands?

A C8 would be select fire.

Not all of them. The C8A2 issued to multiple police agencies is semi auto only. Some C8s have the fun switch, but not all, and not all are machined for the fun switch having only a semi auto lower.

There are Colt guns built using Diemaco marked parts. Find a Colt Defence gun marked "Made in Canada" and the vast majority of parts will be Diemaco. The lowers from these guns, while they lack Diemaco/Colt Canada markings, are in fact from Diemaco/CC. There are some of these in Canada, but they are hard to find here, and were sold by Colt to US contracts or for civilian guns in that marked.

So while a Colt "Made in Canada" 6520 series, 6920 series, M4LE or AR15A3 are not C8s, they have a common link.

That appears to be a clone. Not a true C8, just one engraved to look like it. The mag release is wrong, C8 don't have counter rotation pins or a magpul trigger guard and the buffer tube has exposed threads which the Diemaco buffer tubes threads are hidden by the retention bolt. The safety switch is also wrong.

Just a clone build.

Am I blind or is there no hole for the auto sear?

Also, I know Motiuk has done some CF styled engravings, though I remember they refused to put other manufacturer's logos. Nevertheless, it's possible someone got a receiver engraved with the CF details, and then got a separate company to put the Diemaco logo on it. Or it's a diemaco receiver that got engraved at a later point.

Quick question, if a receiver has that hole for the auto sear, would that require 12.2, 12.3 status to posses?

my guess would be 12.1... because it'S a FA capable receiver... 12.2 or 12.3 would have the holes welded shut and the internal clearance also welded so it could no longer accept the FA parts

Weren't the old SP1's from the 60's and early 70's capable of having automatic parts dropped into them? If one of those was here in Canada, and I'm sure there's at least a couple of them, I believe it would be restricted like any other AR-15. It's not a full automatic because it doesn't have the auto parts in it, and it unless it once had full auto parts in it, it's not a 12.3 because it was never "converted" and started life as a semi-automatic AR-15.

A few years ago, i remember a story here about Diemaco selling a few semi-auto only C-8 to a police unit. Not much, we are talking between 2 and 5 units.

A few years later the police unit merged/re-organised or disbanded and the carbines were sold to civi. I remember seeing here a picture of one of these privately owned semi C-8.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

I cant speak for the C8 serial numbers, but I KNOW my C7 serial number was 9 digits long. 2 numbers, 2 letters, then 5 numbers.

I don't see how serial numbers would change that drastically within the same manufacturer.
