.204 R, 1/12" twist, 26" barrel~what shoots fastest?

Hey guys~looking at a couple of rifles in .204, one option features a 1/10", the other 1/12". I'm interested in the lighter/faster for the flattest trajectory I can get out to 300 yards, but have no intentions of buying a chronograph. It's a varmint hunting rifle, not a paper puncher...so if it does it's job at that distance, I'll be a happy camper. I load .223 with Varget now I really like it, but I'm interested in knowing what bullet/powder combo you're using for high-speed varmint medicine and if you're willing to share you load data, I'll include it in my testing when the time comes.

"...no intentions of buying a chronograph...." You don't need one.
"...in .204..." Find the components first. And buy as much brass as you can afford when you buy the rifle. Don't load that myself, but look at the ballistics tables for the bullet then in your manual for something that gives the closest velocities.
 
If you never chronograph your loads in your rifle, you'll never know what you're getting. Every rifle is an individual, and no one can say which twist will be faster with your loads without testing. If you find velocity so important, you should get something that will measure it.

Start with the manuals, but you are just guessing without some actual measurement.

I have .204's in both the standard 1 in 12 and in custom 1 in 10 twist rates. I do believe that the latter is the better choice, as you can shoot up to 50 gr (perhaps more, but that has been the upper limit of my testing) bullets without losing any capability with the lighter weight bullets (32 gr, etc). H4895 has been my "go to" powder, but several others will produce useful loads, including Reloader 10X and IMR 8208 XBR.
