Once again..new rifle, need some advice.

go with the 7 Rem Mag,...your shoulder will thank you and no game inside of 400, well, maybe inside of 600 yards will ever know the difference if it were whacked with a 180 out of the 300 Winny or a 160 out of the 7 Rem Mag.

Here's a comparison of a couple of Hornady factory loads.

The 300 Winny has a whole .90" trajectory advantage and a 153 ft./lbs. energy advantage at 500 yards.

But, if a 300 Winny is what you want or need go for it, I used one for 12 seasons, it does work.

I would vote for the 300WM. Out of curiosity, have you looked at any Brownings?

Ive never even thought of browning, but my thing with Browning 1) price (2 choices of guns under $700) and 2) if im going to spend $900 on a rifle, ill buy a winchester, sako etc. Just my $0.2

I just recently picked up a Synthetic Vanguard S2 in .300 Win Mag and love it. The action is buttery smooth, you can barely tell you're ejecting a case and picking up a new shell from the magazine. It's been shooting consistent sub MOA groups at 100 yards with Winchester Power Max ammo (yes, I know, cheap ammo but it seems to be working). And for $529 + scope and rings from Prophet River I really can not complain.

Whats the recoil like on it??

I'm running a Frankenstein Remington 700. It's an xcr action blueprinted with a 26"Ted gaillard barrel 1:10 twist with a vias muzzle break barrel contour is a sendero. Chambered in 300win. It's a lil excessive but shoots nice. I do shoot a lot and do it past 1000yards on a regular basis. It's also,my hunting rifle and with that 26" sendero contour it's really not to bad to carry. Add in the vias muzzle break and its a dream to shoot lil loud tho. I picked the 300 for a couple reasons good quality 30 cal bullets are fairly cheap you can find them in any weight you choose. Recoil is tame enough for long target sessions. And with proper bullet choice It will make any North American game dead. So my recommendation is a rem700 sendero chambered in 300win. There around 1400 to 1500 new and can find them used for around 800. Very accurate out of the box. I know first hand uncle has 2 of them one in 300rum and 338 rum

I'd like to know where this data came from haha. My custom 300win is shooting 185 vld hunters at 2870fps chroned with flat primers running quite hot. I'm not gonna get much brass life out of these loads but they shoot so damn good i just don't care haha :)

Without knowing what you already have and how you handle the recoil they generate, the suggestions are somewhat based on person choice.
All my rifles are 700's and I would not switch to something else based on my preference to familiarity.
I have a Remington 700 Sendero in 300 WM and at 11 pounds it generates considerable recoil.
You set your guidelines for distance as 400 with a future interest in 700??
Perhaps trying the rifles of friends might help you in narrowing the scope of your search.

Try a vias muzzle brake on that sendero of yours, garuntee you won't regret it even if you don't shoot much.

IMO the 7mm is the only sane choice out of the bunch. It will do everything you listed easily with significantly less recoil. I've owned all except the WSM, so I am speaking from first hand experience. I'd also go with the Vanguard S2.

On paper the 300 WM has a slight edge over the 7mm however I vastly prefer the 7RM. I've had more bang flops with it. I do like the 300RUm but that is a different Game. While I like the accuracy of the Tikka's I sold mine because I could not stand the cheap feeling from all the plastic. For a rifle I would choose the 700BDL or CDL or Vanguard with wood stock. I find that I don't hang on to tupperware very. Some of the better synthetics are a different story but you can't get them on the cheap guns,

I tend to agree. I've held the Savage Axis model's and wasn't impressed with it. The stock seemed like cheap plastic, the kind that would become brittle when it got cold. The Vanguard I bought has a nicer Synthetic stock with "Griptonite" on the fore end of the stock as well as on the trigger hand grip. I don't have any problems holding on to it when I'm shooting.

Here's a pic of her before I got my scope mounted, unfortunately I don't have a pic with the scope here at work.

You can see the "griptonite" black rubber on the grip and fore-stock.

Hey guys,
Once again, i'm shopping for a new rifle (just cause I want another one) and i'm a little torn about what to get.

Here are my caliber options:
-7mm rem mag
-.300 win mag
-.300 wsm
.300 wby mag

And rifle choices:
-Rem 700 SPS
-Savage 114 American Classic
-Weatherby Vanguard S2
-Tikka T3 Lite

I know if i go with a .300 wby mag I need the S2. My concern is recoil, i'm not scared of it, but i like to go and shoot a fair bit and practice, so i dont want to bugger my shoulder by practicing. My main use will be for whitetail deer, mule deer and the odd (every 3-4 years) elk, bear, moose. Shots will be from 0-400 yards, but eventually id like to get into some longer ranges (500-700 yards)
Also is the WBY mag even worth it? I will be getting my neighbour to handload whatever I buy so i know i can load them a little bit lighter for lighter recoil and itll be way cheaper then factory ammo.
So give me your rifle/caliber recommendation and why cause I have been reading to much and don't know what to think anymore.

From your cartridge list I'd go with the .300 Winchester, the brass is usually a bit cheaper then the Weatherby, otherwise I don't have a preference. Why a .300 over a 7mm? I like heavy for caliber bullets and in this regard the .300s beat out the 7mm . . . by about 70 grs. From your list of rifles, I'd choose a 700, I've owned a number of them and like them when they're stocked correctly. But I'd probably opt for a custom rifle built on a 700 action, just to get it set up the way I like.

Whatever your choice turns out to be, I urge you to buy the gear and start loading your own. Even a pal with the best of intentions might not always be able to always find a convenient time to load ammo for you when you need it, which might negatively impact the amount of shooting you can do. Besides that, working up your own loads, and taking game with them is rewarding.
