Leupolds.........

Aside from the obvious fact that one's a variable and the other fixed power, the M8 4x is an older model but both have Multicoat 4. They are also generally known to be bulletproof. If you could care less about the variable magnification, I'd choose the M84x. I haven't been impressed with the Rifleman and VX1 line.

So you want to compare tech specs? So why not look them up? Which is "better" is a subjective argument based on what you intend to use it for.

I'm not interested in post count. I'm simply perplexed as to why you would ask a question that compares the specs of two optics, when said specs are available online? This is further complicated by the fact that you have yet to indicate what potential use these optics will be tasked with. This makes any attributes of either scope questionable until a desired role is determined..

Only in your minds eye.
Simple question was asked and you insist on complicating the issue.

Which of the two scopes is of better quality???????????

Forget the fooooking purpose. Not your business.

You can't get an educated answer without knowing the purpose. Its like asking, water or flower, which is better? That would depend on what you intend to use them for. My opinion, Leupold is bottom of the barrel for quality, invest more money and buy better gear.

I have both and prefer the M8 for it's simplicity and rock solid construction. They are a lot of scope for the money.

The VX-1 isn't a bad scope either, and the variable power has it's place.
I also find the eye relief on low power to be more forgiving than on the M8, but only by a little.

Although the OP states you only want opinions on those two, I have to say that I prefer the FX-II 2.5 x 20 over them both.
Very light and compact with long and very forgiving eye relief, plus great clarity. One of the best values on the market in my opinion.

He actually asked for a very subjective "which is better". Obviously he's going to replace the 50mm scope on his Browning. Since that's a hunting rifle I recommended, subjectively, the M8 due to my experience with it. I'm pretty sure that, as insane as he may be, this is what looky was looking for.

And I got another post count to stay the same distance ahead of both of you.

I have an m8 4x33 and find it comes up nice for quick shots. The VX1 will have improved glass coatings though, as the m8 are older. If looking for a good mix of the 2, an FXII 4x33 would be my choice.

The new VX-1 is he equivalent to the older VX-II. Note that the newer ones use arabic numbers rather than roman numerals.

They have a lighter tube, lead free lenses, they support the CDS (dial) system, and they have the same coatings that the older VX-II did. They also now include click turrets rather than friction dial.

It seems the only people who don't like the NEW VX-1s are people who are still hung up on the older VX-Is.

That would depend on what kind of hunting he wishes to do, long range? short range?, both? Can't give an educated opinion without more details.

Looky the m8 is a nice bullet proof scope, if you like the 4x option also look at the vx1 1-4 options, I have one of them on my 6.5x55 with the heavy duplex and it is great to shoot with.
