... and I want the other half.

I basically payed nothing for this Remmington 812 and a half. Now I want to find a barrel for it, cheaply if at all possible. So where can I get one and in what caliber; 12, 20, 410? What would be "fitting" if I were to shorten the barrel to 18.5?

No marking for caliber, which is most likely be on the barrel assembly. Only markings are Remmington 812 and serial in front of the trigger guard. The face is flat, so one can assume barrel asemblys are interchangeable. Could be wrong, I know nothing of these guns.

The butt stock looks shortened in comparison to others. Yeah, for the hell of it I want to install a shortened 12 gauge barrel at 18.5", it will still be within overall length regulation. Now, to find a barrel.

you could cut it to a pistol grip with a 19" barrel and still be over 26" well at least that's how most singles and double are

Do not try this!
When firing a pistol grip 12 gauge a lot of stress is put on the fore-end.
This is caused by a tighter grip on the gun due to the recoil not being absorbed by the shooters shoulder.
After enough use, the little spring-loaded rod in the fore-end will begin to bend.

It works for pump-action shotguns, but it doesn't with break-actions.
I know because I tried the same thing with an almost identical gun to yours. (CIL model 401)
Now I use a full stock on the gun, I did cut the barrel to 19", it's a nice little truck gun.

To bad the pistol grip didn't work out though, it would have made a great little backpacker.

Gunrunner100 also has a magik hat.
Give him a p.m.
Or wait for him to come along.

Ta Da...!
Thanks Paul for letting me know about this thread. And thanks to Looky, as always!
OP:
Give Willy Tincup a PM, he got some barrels off me last week. He might have an extra.

I have one of these in .410, and from looking at it, there is no way it could accept a 12 ga barrel. The OD of the .410 barrel at the chamber is barely bigger than a 12 ga shell. If you wan't any measurements from mine, let me know. I'm betting with the cut down stock and added recoild pad that yours wasn't a .410 though. I might be interested in buying the forestock / hinge "bushing block" off the back of it if you don't have any luck finding a barrel, but I wish you the best in your search.
