Hi there

I am a newbie. I have a problem installing my new red dot onto my new rifled slug barrel. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Recently, I bought a remington 870 express with a fully rifled slug barrel. The guy in the gunshop recommanded me the bushnell trs-32 red dot, and I bought it. I brought them back home and wanted to install the red dot. But I found that the ring that came with the red dot would not fit with the rail. I attached some pictures here. You can see that the bolt of the ring is bigger than the slot of the rail. The bolt was measured 5.6mm and the slot was measured 4mm. Anybody know how to fix it? Should I buy another ring or modify the rail?

You can see that the ring would not fit with the rail.

The bolt is a lot bigger than the slot.

The slot was measured 4mm.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I called the gun store last week, they told me this was final sale, no return, but I could still took them back and they would try to find a solution for me. Perhaps I would need to buy another ring. I will take all the stuffs to the gun store tomorrow and see what they can do. I do not think I can put a smaller bolt. There is a hole and slot on the bottom of the ring where the bolt can exactly sit inside. The ring might be loose with a improper bolt.

I checked the dimensions of standard picatinny rail. It seems the bushnell ring has standard dimensions and the 870 rail does not. I am just wondering what I should put on the rail. Am I the only one who has such kind of problem?

From Wilkipedia:
The Picatinny locking slot width is 0.206 in (5.23 mm). The spacing of slot centers is 0.394 in (10.01 mm) and the slot depth is 0.118 in (3.00 mm).[4] The only differences between the Picatinny rail and the similar Weaver rail are the size of these slots and the fact that they are standardized. Weaver rails have a slot width of 0.180 in (4.57 mm), but are not necessarily consistent in the spacing of slot centers.

Thanks for your information. I think your answer just hit the mark. The 870 has a weaver rail, and the gun store gave me a picatinny.

I bought them from the local Le Baron. They sale everything with cheaper prices, but all the sales are final. Anyway, I can still use the red dot, because I am planning to buy a mini-14. Maybe a slug scope will be better for the slug shotgun. Thanks, guys.

If it's LeBaron's in Mississauga they can be real knobs. Especially to newby's asking "stupid" questions. I avoid them (in the gun shop) when I can but they are conveniently close for some things.

Well - Those rings come with the red dot, and they are cheap .... All you need to do is get another set of rings Weaver, Burris, Millett etc. Since you are a newbie, be aware that rings come in different heights and diameter (eg 1 in and 30 mm)
Update: the TRS 32 is a single ring 'tactical' unit, designed for mounting on an AR, not a shotgun. There are other models of red dot that employ two conventional weaver style rings which would be much better suited for the job. Suggest you look at the Trophy model - perhaps they will exchange for it. If you're stuck with that unit, why not just grind two flats in the crossbolt?

Thanks for you suggestion.

I went to the store today, they did not want to return or exchange. The guy sugguested me to buy another ring---but he could not find a ring to fit this red dot.

Either way, if I grinded the crossbolt to be thinner or widen the slot with a file, it would still leave me to wonder if the ring would not be tightly fixed and I would never be able to zero it after.

Well, I gave up finally. Just like what you said, TRS 32 is not for a shotgun. I decided to buy a scope. I am looking at Bushnell legend Ultra HD. 1.75-5x32 or 2-7x32, which one do you suggest? I want to use it for deer and black bear hunting.

Why didn't you tell the ####### that he was the ####ing idiot that suggested it to you and sold it to you and it doesnt even ####ing work. That is straight up bull#### and thanks for reminding me never to shop at that store.

try to find email from corporate office and tell them what happened also include that you will never shop there again including your friends.
